R-Values

Considering the purchase of a 3400RL with the artic package which states an increae in R values. What I can't find is how much of an increase. Standard R values are (according to brochure) Roof R-14, Wall R-9 and Floor R-21. Can anyone here shed some light on this subject?

Thanks

Bonehead, I have a 3400 with the Arctic Package and I think the only difference is a sheet of foil wrap under the belly pan. I could not find anything about the increased R value and I bought mine in Alaska. There are a couple other Alaskans that may be able to shed some more light...

Thanks for the reply. All the brochure says is "Artic insulation package with higher R-values", its doesn't say how much more. I have gone to the Keystone web sight and can't find anything there. Just thought I would ask here. Again thanks for the reply.

We bought our Monty at Simmons RV in Anchorage, as did exav8tr. I don't know the increase in R-value of the arctic pacakge off the top of my head, but someone who can tell you is Bill in the service department. Give him a call and ask - he knows everything! And, welcome to the forum!

I looked at the Montana web site and went to construction where is shows Roof R-14(double plus sign) Sides R-9 (no notation) and Floor R-21 (double plus sign). No place was the double plus sign explained.

OK, I found the little notation.
"Arctic Insulation Package: R-14 roof and R-21 floor"
Listed about 5th on the "Standards and Options" page.

So this leads me to believe that the Normal "R" rating would be R-9 unless you get the Arctic Package.

In the 2007 sales brochure under standard features in lists "exterior walls (R-9)".
Same page has "Zero Degree" "tested and approved features..." Here it lists "Arctic insulation package with higher R-values".

Not sure this is much help. But thats all I could find.

I believe Bob is right - the brochure has the R-values with the Artic Package. It doesn't show the values without the option.

I thought the Artic package was a mandatory option?? Course, that may have changed.

It is not the greatest stuff in the world, but, after coming from a unit without an enclosed basement and nothing between me and the frozen tundra, I am glad to have the artic package, even if all it gives me is R factor of ONE!

Carol, I just checked the Brochure and the Arctic package is a true option. Its listed under "Equipment Options"
Stuff like second AC/ AC prep, Generator Prep, 10cu double door refrigerator, W/D Prep, Arctic Insolation Package, Hydrolic selector valves, Central Vac, Onan Gen, Fireplace.

Also checked, Arctic insulation does NOT come with dual pane safety glass. Dual pane comes listed under "Exterior Options", with Skide-room awnings, Aluminum Wheels, Dual Pane, Gel-coat, Basement slide tray.

On my 08 Mountaineer it came Glacier Package ..Only R-14 ceiling
R-14 Floor & R- Walls. Compared to our SOB with an open floor, it's night & Day! Also there is a foil type insulation under the carpet on the slides. At 20 degrees in the am, my bare feet were warm at the dining table area.

Very well satisfied.

Of course, we don't use it much for cold weather...only on way from WI to FL in the late fall. With more insulation than our SOB, it's easier to cool in the hot sun. Double pane windows would be a plus!
That will be in our next Montana.

I guess the real question is: "What does a small increase in R value ACTUALLY mean to the owner?" Obviously the higher the number the greater the insulation, but is 9 to 14 a REAL difference????? I guess any increase, in subzero temps, would mean alot......

Is it any wonder we are always confused????

on the Montana Division of Keystone web site,

http://keystone-montana.com/?page=options

under tab called Packagss, we find:

Customer Convenience Group
Aerodynamic front cap with Hitch Vision™ Mirror
Central exterior convenience center
Dexter E-Z lube axles with 8 lug wheels
MOR/ryde(R) rubber axles
Arctic insulation package
Vented attic
Deep tint safety glass windows
15,000 BTU A/C with Quick Cool
Air mattress hide-a-bed sofa
Washer/dryer prep
Convection microwave oven
Ceiling fan with light kit
(2) flush mount kitchen sink covers
Cedar lined front closet
Dual reading lights over bed
Deluxe queen (60 x 80) innerspring mattress

Now, it has been a VERY long time since we purchased a new unit (June of 2003), but, I believe you MUST buy this Customer Convenience Group, which is what I meant as a mandatory option.

Geeesh the latest brochure I have here at the stick built is for a 2008 (not sure if it is the early half of the year, or the late half of the year, but 2008) and the artic package is not uner the Equipment Options, but under Moving to Montana Package, which again, I believe was a mandatory option.

OK, so

Color me artic package confused!

Carol, I too am confused. Looks like they changed their information between 2007 (brochure) and the 2009 (brochure) and web site. I agree with your input for the 2009 brochure and current web site. Back in 2007, per the brochure (if that was correct) the Arctic package was an option. Thanks for showing me the update.

2007 Brochure
http://www.keystonerv.com/media/docu...Montana_07.pdf
2008 Brochure
http://www.keystonerv.com/media/documents/Montana08.pdf

I guess either way with the Arctic Insulation Package the (R) values are the same.
Roof R-14, Wall R-9 and Floor R-21

Bob, I actually glanced at the 2004 brochure, which we have, well, we have every brochure from 2003 to 2008. I did not have a lot of time, as dinner and other things were calling my name, and each brochure I glanced at, as well as the web pages, had that Artic package in a different area/package.

Do you hear my stutter??

I don't remember anything being "mandatory" when we ordered our 2007.

There were "mandatory" options for the Big Sky during the initial limited production in 2007, but nothing said on the Montana.

Gotta love it, Brad

The 2007 brochure I have here at the stick built shows the artic package in the group called "Equipment Options", like a second air, generator prep, electric fireplace, etc.

Then there is the Value Package with stuff like Fold away entry handle, patio scare light, roof ladder, the infamous DVD/AM/FM receiver with 5.1 surround sound, skydome over the tub, etc.

Color me confused, but in 2007, could you really order a Montana without this Value Package?? which is listed as the second group under OPTIONAL FEATURES??

okkkkk, wayyyy off subject, sorry.

My advice, to the cold, get the silly stuff no matter what package it is listed under.

I guess FEMA could, but you're right, I never have seen one without those basics.

HA HA ya, FEMA could!

Well, this has been a learning experience for me, I had no idea they moved that Artic Package stuff around in the "Packages" like they do. Amazing piece of information.

I just looked at our 07 price sheet. It says the Artic Ins is $380 (but I'll bet you could not buy a Montana without it)...the following are mandatory options: Value Package ($2595), RVIA seal ($90), and Move to Montana Package ($3895).
