Hwy. 441 through the Smokey Mtn. Nat. Park
We are getting ready to take a trip to the east coast to visit family. We'll be coming back on I-40 through Kentucky & Tennessee and have reservations at Creekside RV in Pigeon Forge. I'm thinking about going through the park on Hwy 441 to see the scenery. Is it a good idea or should I just stick to the interstate? I don't know how difficult the road is for a 5th wheel as far as steep hills, low overpasses or tunnels, etc.
Thanks in advance for advice and suggestions.

That is the route that goes over the mountain, up to Clingman's Dome, etc.
Personally we would never take any rig over that route, it is fun to drive it solo, and that is what our advice would be.
I am sure there are people that do it, and we have seen one or two, even saw one with the side ripped off where he sorta brushed along the rock wall.
That is OUR take on it. Personal opinion, etc.

We were there again this spring and would not tow through this route. It can be done, and is by some, but we would not tow the rig along this route. Enjoy - it is beautiful. 54 oohs and 67 aahs per mile.

The tunnels on this route are oval shaped and the clearance on the side is 11ft 3in. If you go through better be in the middle and hope no one is coming the other way.
I agree with the others, while I have seen big rigs go over I would not pull it.

We did take our coach over this road but at that time we had a 32 foot fifth wheel and our campsite was in Townstead. We just drove it across and got set up at the campground before we came back and did the sight-seeing drive. We would do it again if we had to in our Montana.

Thanks for all the input, just what I needed to know. I think we'll stick to the interstate to get to Pigeon Forge. We can sightsee in the truck after the trailer is unhooked.

I've driven 441 several times. It's a gorgeous drive. It does go up to about 6,000 feet but I've towed our Montana on far more difficult climbs and curves than that road has. I didn't tow on that one, however, simply because we weren't going or coming from that direction. But I would if we were. I've seen quite a number of fifthwheels and travel trailers towed on that road including a Montana. We were in the area for almost seven weeks.
