Alltel air card

Can anyone share your feelings one way or another in regards to an Alltel wireless card.

Where I am located in Wi they have broadband service, but I am looking for a card that will serve me the best nation wide.

I can't speak for the Alltel card because that is not in Minnesota. I did see it several places in the south and south east but did not notice if it covers the western states or not. I can only speak for Verizon Wireless and tell you that after two years, I just renewed it for another two. I am very happy with it.

I use Alltel for my internet service. It's been very dependable. I live in WV and so far I haven't had any service problems anywhere I've traveled. Kerry

Alltel has limited coverage compared to other carriers. Verizon has been the best for us with good coverage in the west, south, and midwest. Next summer we're running a test in the Northeast.

Alltel uses the same technology as Verizon but it all depends on roaming contracts they have with the other carriers using the same signal. My verizon card was not supposed to work in Nebraska tried it in North Platte last Sept. and it worked great. Alltel also merged with Western Wireless (Cell One) a year ago giving great coverage in the Northwest. I would check out what their coverage areas are and make sure to ask them. Also heard a rumor that Verizon is looking at merging/buying out Alltel. Just a rumor but would make sense since they use the same type signal. If that happens then Verizon would be in a position of increadible nationwide coverage.

the rumor about alltel being bought turned out to be true, but they werent bought out by verizon, they were bought by Goldman Sachs Group and TPG (Texas Pacific Group) Capital:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/cmp/20070522/tc_cmp/199700440

if you are after nationwide coverage, we at evdoinfo feel the best choice is sprint because of their roaming agreements. in addition to sprint native coverage, they have a roaming agreement at EVDO speeds with alltel, and roaming agreement with verizon at nat'l access/1xrtt speeds. the combination of coverage and roaming, gives sprint the largest 'footprint', in our opinion.

you might want to take a look at http://evdomaps.com

its not a 'coverage map' per se... its a voluntary effort by members of evdoforums who are posting actual speedtest results and info about their gear, from many places they are in the nation.

everyone using evdo from sprint or verizon is encouraged to join evdoforums and plot your speedtest results.
