suburban furnace

We just bought a 38 ft 5th wheel Montana. During a cold snap we used a whole bottle of propane in just 3 days. The heater will run for awhile, shut off and come back on within a minute. Has anyone had that problem? Thought it might be the duotherm termostat. We love the trailer and all the room but a little concerned over the heating issue. We are full time rvers and will be in Amarillo TX for a long time. It stays pretty cold most of the time.

We use two space heaters (one on each level) to reduce the propane usage. If it is sub-freezing, they need carefully adjusted to make sure that the furnace kicks on a couple of times during the night to keep the basement warm to prevent pipe freezing problems. In cold weather (20-25 degrees), we averaged two to four days per propane bottle before using the space heaters.

Depending on what I set my thermostat at, I can go through 1 full propane bottle in 3 to 5 days. For me it is more cost effective to run small space heaters throughout the coach and leave my thermostat set at 55 - 58 degrees. This will keep my underbelly warm enough so the pipes won't freeze up.

Yes, the furnace will kick in often in coooold weather. We use a 20,000 btu blue flame propane heater during the day to keep the rig toasty warm. But we run the furnace at about 60-65 °F at night to keep the pipes in the belly from freezing. About 3-4 days per bottle in the coldest weather is about normal. At least it was for us until we added the blue flame heater. It sits in the living room with a 10 ft hose connected to a "quick disconnect" connector in the propane line.

Our 3400 is parked in the driveway. In order to keep the water lines from freezing we have the temp set at 50 degrees.Outside temp has been in the low to mid 20's. We are using 1 30 lb tank of propane every 3 maybe 3 1/2 days. These guys can be very expensive to heat.

Like most, we run two electic heaters to reduce the propane usage...especially in a campground where we are already paying for the electic. Also, if you have a heat vent close to the thermostat, it will affect how often the heat cycles.
