Fresh Water Inlet Connector - Montana Owners Club

The fresh water hose connector needs a new approach. I spend 15 minutes every time I connect trying to stop the leaking water.
I find the recessed connector hard to manipulate.

Because I have brutalized it with wrenches, I think it needs replacement at this point. Anyone replaced it ? and is it simple to replace?

I use the 6" long Flexible Water Hose Protector from CW Item number 8666. I use it on the trailer end not the faucet end. It is easier to couple to the trailer and takes the strain off the fitting so it doesn't leak as bad. I have tried the 90* and 45* adapters but the Flex hose works best. Try better quality hose gaskets also. Sometimes the cheap ones do not form to the fittings well.

This may sound simplistic, but do you carry a supply of new washers?
I have noticed they don't seem to last long, and many of the connections are so cheap they don't work right off.
Once you find a good one - take note for replacements.

I put a quick connect fitting on the water connection so I don't have to struggle with connection each time.

I did buy new fittings from Home Depot and replaced the fitting in May 06.
I don't think a quick connect will allow me to close the cover on the fresh water inlet.
I will try one as I do like the quick connects.
I also tried the flexible hose at the RV inlet and that leaked even more. Maybe that is a cheap fitting also.

I extended the fitting by using a couple brass fittings. With the fittings on, it now sticks a bit through the cover but that's OK as the cover is so cheap and flimsy it wouldn't keep a child out. I cap the fitting when traveling.

I also use a quick disconnect fitting. This eliminates having to screw the hose in every time you hook up. With the quick disconnect, once it is tight you don't have to worry about leaks. You can get good quick disconnects from Ace Hardware for around $5.00.

Usually the problem has to do with the hose male fitting and the gasket. Most hoses come with the light tin type metal fittings and they tend to bend easy and don't make good contact with the gasket. If I am having trouble with a hose I buy one of the solid brass replacement male fittings. They give a heavy flat area that contacts the gasket and very seldom leak. Only problem then is the hose clamp I use to secure the new fitting. I use the smallest one I can get that will fit the hose and if there are sharp edges I use elect tape to make it smooth. Not the prettiest but it works great.

The new docking Station (convenience center) solves that problem..plenty of room for a quick disconnect attachment.

Dcowie, does your Montana have the separate box with just the water connection and fresh water filler and a door over it or is it the newer Montana with the connections in the basement storage area? We have the former now and have the latter on order so am wondering if I'm going to have a new problem to deal with.

Steve..The fresh water connection is in the docking station with plenty of room for a quick disconnect for the hose.There is only the fresh water filler in the rear door and you would only need that when boon docking as you can also fill the fresh water tank from the docking station with a flip of a switch..you are just going to love that docking station///

Ozzie, I do carry a half dozen or so new washers. They're cheap. But, to tell the truth, I use maybe two or three new ones per year.

Steve - did I misread or misinterpret what you posted earlier? You have the older style water hookup but have the newer docking station on order, or you have the older Montana & have the new Montana on order? It got my attention as I thought you were saying the new style docking station could be ordered. We have a new '06 Monty but it was built just prior to the changeover and we have the angled old style water connection. Mike

Mike..The docking station is not a option.I'm not exactly sure when that change took place. I think around the first of the year(06) The one at the RV show in Feb had all the new changes including the docking station.

You could probably order the "convenience center" as they call it on the website but it would take quite a bit of work to install it and hook everything up. It might be worthwhile, though. Your dealer could probably check out prices for you. I would think this would be available as replacements for those that go bad for some reason.

Well guys I think I'll just stick with what I've got. I can't imagine the remodel headache to get everything that flows, pulls, charges, electrifies, & dumps moved over to a new compact location. I guess we got the early '06 model before the docking station became the norm. And the MorRide. And the newly designed front cap. And the hitching mirror. And..... oh well, that is what makes us trade in and get the latest and greatest, isn't it? Mike

Mike, I can relate. We currently have an early model '03, delivered just a couple of months before the flat floor upstairs, deeper closet, wider stance landing gear, and on and on and on. I can't wait to see what we'll miss out on this time because we didn't wait. But, then, that will be the case no matter when we buy.
