Busy Day and I found another crooked garage.

I ordered a load of Amsoil last week for my truck and Betsy's Vibe. Then her BFF came over and wanted to know how to change her oil so she didnt have to take to the local tire garage for service. Soooo I increased the order to fill her Tahoe and Suburban and associated oil filters. I serviced my Truck over the weekend and did both of hers today. But I showed her how on the Tahoe then supervised her doing the Suburban herself, for that she bought me dinner. However I saw the receipts for her last 4 oil changes at the tire place. They used Amsoil and charged her 8.10 a qt which is about right for a commercial place, BUT they had her come in every 3 thousand miles. The oil is good for 25K or 12 months and she didn't know it. So they stiffed her on the last 4 changes. I wondered about them since the last time I went there for some work. Now I know and will spread the word accordingly. Anyway she now knows how to do it herself. By the way, most medium Tool kits don't come with a 15mm socket and that happens to be the main one on Chevy trucks, oil drain plug and skid plate bolts. We had to go buy one each. now I have one just for my truck and she has one for both of hers....

You had a busy day. But two good things came out of it when you informed Betsy's BFF that she was being taken for a ride and showed her how to do oil chages herself.

I had my new 6.7 in for a warranty recall and the tech doing the work came out and asked me what the second filler cap was for (DEF Fluid), under the fuelcap lid?! I think much of the time, it is not so much that shops are intentionally ripping us off, just that they do not know their jobs or products.

Not with this bunch, I have been an Amsoil dealer since 76, one of the first on the east coast. I used to take my truck to these clowns till I realized they weren't that good and had some sideways tendencies. They knew damn well what the product was and that they were stiffing her. I am putting out the word locally that they are pulling a shady on folks. That sort of thing doesn't fly well here...

To make things easier for her, you should install a FOMOTO valve in place of the drain plug. I have the one with the nipple and I just slip a peice of tubing onto the nipple and place it into the old oil container. Open the valve till the container is full, close valve replace container with an empty, and repeat.

One thing to keep in mind, if the manual says 3000 mile intervals, and you, as a business change that interval through action or advice to say 10,000 miles and customer has a failure (oil related) and your advice voids warranty, YOU will be held legally libel for damages, because YOU are viewed as an expert and your company is the authority in the eyes of the court. Actually occurred, it was the use of synthetic oil and extending the change intervals. They don't have a problems with the synthetic oil, but they do have a problem with extending the interval. This being said, the business she was dealing with may have known better, but legally was protecting itself by recommending manufactures owners manual values. OR maybe I'm all wet and thier intent was to rip her off.
