Gauge of brake wire?

My fellow travellers have really helped me so far. I am seriously thinking about replacing my brake feed wire from controller to wheels instead of trying to find a scraped wire or bad ground. Is #10-2 stranded wire reasonable? I read that either #12-2 or #10-2 should be used...I looks like #16-2 is the original.
Thanks!

For under 30 ft. hitch to axle Dexter recommends #12

Art, did you redo the connection under your truck bed? the connection were they spliced the in bed receptacle to the truck wires for the power cord. Your problem was exactly the same as i had and that was my problem. My splice looked good, but i re-did it and it worked perfectly after i changed the connection.

Thanks for the replies. I will be re=doing that connection and thanks for the wire gauge info. If needed, I think that I may be using #10.

10 gauge will be a bit overkill as well as a tad stiff to work with. Remember ... the distance to the axles is no where near the length of your trailer. Your brakes will only pull @12 amps when activated. Most any magnets pull @3 amps each.
