My gosh... still looks the same in photographs, even when I first saw him on TV when I was in high school.

I met him in 1960 or 61 {old timers I guess} the first time in Darlington after the southern 500 he sat around for along time in the pits and signed autographs. He is one of the nices guys you will ever meet just a down home country boy.

Today the guy that was his crew chief back then was in. His name escapes me. His mother and Richard Petty's mother are like first cousins. Interesting to here him talk about the old days. He still works for Petty Ent.

My son and I drove tow trucks at the Rockingham track several years. The King is as nice a guy as you will ever meet. Most of the drivers and crew are. I don't know if you know the story about him running for Secty. of State of NC. He was sure to win. A woman made him a little angry in traffic and he spun her out. Ende his pol. career but made him a little taller in my est. Larry

Wouldn't you love to have Richard Petty Come over to your camper and set down and talk for 2 or 3 hours. Fix him a big pot of beans cornbread and some butter milk. Richard petty wouldn't go home hungry.
Remember the good old days of Nascar when Bobby Allison discovered his car would run faster without the rear bumper so he tack welded it on and had has running mate bump him and knock it off. I think he won the race.
Marty Robbins wonted to lead just one race so he put on 2, 4 barrel carburetors led 4 laps pulled her into the pits shut it off and caught the next flight back to Nashville so he perform on the Grand Ole Opery, like he always did.
