Bridge Heights

I have a feeling we may have to visit Long Island this Summer. I have been there with my Dodge but not with my Montana. I do know that I cannot travel on the parkways so no issues there but I will have to travel on surface streets and if I remember correctly, the lanes were narrow and the bridges old and low. Does anyone know of a publication that will help me out? Will a Garmin or other GPS have this information?

I have found this to be quite useful http://lowclearances.com/
You can download the data to your mapping program and your GPS

One of my Christmas presents is a Garmin RV760LMT. You put in your rigs weight, length, width and height.

We'll see how accurate it is on the trip home this spring.

We visited Long Island this past summer, and DID NOT take the Montana there. Instead, we parked in the Poconos, drove in the next day, stayed at a hotel during our stay on the island, and returned to our rig to continue our journey. I had planned on attempting getting the rig out on the island, but came to my senses and made a prudent choice. I even thought driving out around 2 or 3 in the morning would work, but decided against that also. As it was, DW just about had a stroke with the trip in the truck, she had never been there before, and was not familiar with the crazy driving needed to survive.

When it comes to low bridges don't trust the signs on them or anything else. If it looks low pull up and look. Plenty of stories out there, including a guy who drove a straight truck where I drove a tractor, where they paved the road and didn't change the signs.

The publication I recommend is a map of WYOMING. Wide lanes, few bridges and very few crazy New Yorkers. (from a Brooklyn kid)

Rich, very funny. Chris and I got a good laugh at your post.

I had not thought to leave the rig off the island but it's not a bad idea. That way, I can cruise the parkways all the way to my destination (like you guys, we can be in and out in a couple of days).

I'm certainly going to work on that, I think.

Also, thanks for the info on the Garmin. There is nothing like the peace of mind when someone else has already done the research. Thanks.

Happy holidays to you all and your families.
