Well, my 2007 Montana Mountaineer, which I bought in October, 2006, has 6000 pound Dexter axles.

Oye, I didn't get ANY satisfaction from Keystone regarding what size axles I have. He couldn't tell from the VIN#, and waded through a ton of stuff, still couldn't find anything. Then he started talking about the possibility of an 5200# axle also. C'mon Sparky, I have a 3475, do you REALLY think that size axle is gonna be on my Montana? So, I guess I'm just gonna have to crawl under there and see for myself...sometime in late spring, when my site isn't lakefront property from the thaw...LOL Man, that was NOT a good first time experience with Keystone.

Jan,
They can definitely tell from the VIN every part of that rig. You must've gotten hold of someone who just didn't want to look it up, or maybe he was one of those who "woke up on the wrong side of the rock."

Jan, Mark Crone, from Keystone was able to tell us by the last 6 digits of the vin number. Probably someone who didnt know or where to look. When I called them before it was a Jim that told me all 2007's that were built after Dec 1 had the 7000 pound axles on them...he didnt know what he was talking about. We are still waiting to hear from him(Mark Crone)...thought we would of heard something today...

The build date of my Monty is 10-4-06. I gave the guy the last six digits of the VIN#, that didn't work, so he tried the last eight digits...still nothing. He was able to bring up my file, since he knew my name without my telling him. He said the computers were running slow, and kept apologizing. I told him that was fine, I'm in no hurry. But, he still couldn't find what I wanted. He said their was TONS of stuff to go through regarding axles. Then he said the axles are done in plant 4. Well, thats truly interesting stuff Bubba, but you're still not telling me what I called for. I told him that other's on here got their answer by giving the VIN#. I think he's new. I should have written down his name, but he was starting to pi$$ me off, so I thought it best to just finish the call and look for myself later. I don't appreciate the fact that they have a recording come on telling you they're backed up on calls, so you HAVE to leave a message instead of staying on hold. You give them the info on the message, but they don't bother to call you back. Now THAT, really ticks me off!!! Not good business any way you look at it. Anyway, it's nothing thats pressing, so I'll just check it out myself.

Jan,
I'm not sure I would believe them if they did come up with an answer. Probably still best just to read the sticker on the side, and read the axle engraving to know for sure.

We have 7,000 lb axles on the Cambridge. They are tags on each axle, well its actually printed in white. Also we have called Keystone many time, and have left messages and in all cases our call was returned. Sometimes it was the next day. But the answer was always correct. I would guess you got a new person, and he or she was having a hard time bringing up the info. I would call back. I wish that we had 8,000 lb axle's or three 7,000 lb axles. And yes I no the negative's of dragging around tri-axles. Good Luck...GBY....

Jan they must be having alot of calls because we still have not heard back from Mark Crone. Last we talked he was calling our dealer and seeing what could be worked out.....I keep saying patience, patience...Have learned one thing and that is to get the name of whom ever I talk with. Maybe try back and you will get someone that has more knowledge. As Brad has suggested look on the side at the sticker and read what is on the axle. Keystone rep/dealer told us the wrong info.

Campbud, Mark Krohl does a lot of traveling so he may be on the road.
Jan, you might try calling again and see if you get a different rep. They should be able to tell you exactly which axles were installed in yours. I've never asked that but still think they can do it, as others posted above.

Thanks for the info Steve...and the correction of Mark's last name! I thought I had read his name on this forum before. I will wait awhile b/f calling again to see if he gets back with me.

DMS - The tag on mine read D60 and I have the 6000# axles. I would bet your D70 denotes 7000# axles. Check the VIN tag on your trailer for axle ratings. Sure wish mine were D70.

We've had the pleasure of meeting Mark several times. I've found him not only very personable but also knowledgeable and he follows through. Like everyone, he's busy, so if he doesn't respond within reasonable time then a reminder might help. He'll likely catch up with all his messages when he gets back from wherever he went, though. Mark is one of the good guys.

Thanks Rick
That's what I was assuming. The funny thing is my VIN tag says I have 6000 lb axles but I was also assured they would be 7000 lbs. I called my dealer today to see if we can get our tag changed.

Geez, you would think we could at least depend on our VIN tag to have the correct information entered on it. Never assume anything I guess.

You could have the Vin Label saying 6000 and Have D70=7000 axles. The Vin is going to say what the manufacturer rated them. Could be tires that are the week link. Could be the springs. So check then all. Rating on Vin is always going to be the max of the weeks link in the axle system. Just like the truck company's do. Could be the brakes also knocking those D70 down in rating.

Campbud, Rich has the name spelled correctly. I had a typo in my post. It's Mark Krol.

I had posted a response here, but decided to re-post it as a new topic ("Dexter Axle Info") under the Technical help section.
