Wow! That whole neighborhood should smell like a peppermint stick with that much oil!

Well the mouse is still in the house (ceiling of our 3400).We were armed with Irish Spring soap, Downey fabric softner, cedar wood blocks and balls, victor snap traps and there were placed in areas around the camper, The fragerance from the soap and fabric softner were almost to much for us and it did not influience the mice to keep out as 2 more came in and were caught in the basement by the soap. The critter in the ceiling dosen't seem to want to come out for peanut butter, cheese, de-con or anything. I think he should be getting thirsty and hungry before long. He has been up there a week.He waits till about 10 at night and then starts back and forth, it's like he's pacing, dosen't spend time at either end. One good thing tho as last night he was alot slower and didn't travel as far, maybe he's running out of strength. When we get back next weekend maybe he will have just melted away
Going to build a couple of new outside traps that are sure mouse getters and they reload themselves. A 5 gallon bucket with 2 small v grooves across from each other, put about 4" of water in the bucket. Take a shaft from an arrow and run it thru a beer can so it spins easily, smear the beer can with peanut butter and set in grooves of bucket, can centered on bucket, put a small board or stick from ground up against bucket for a ramp. When the mouse comes up the ramp and jumps to the can w/ p butter it rolls him off into the water.
works every time.

Peppermint oil doesn't smell that bad, Allen. I'd give it a try Only problem is that it may be difficult to find without ordering. All I know is that I do not have any more dead red squirrels in my ceiling... But don't get me started...

Also as an after thought, Home Depot sells a poison called Rat and Mouse Killer (Real Kill&copy All Weather Bars (1½"x1½" square). They work. 48 hrs. They are NOT the rat poison type that makes them bleed out and dehydrate. It simply kills them.

Since red squirrels are a part of the rat family it works on these pests, too. Don't ask me how I know - a friend told me. Just have to be careful where you place this as Fox/Gray/Black squirrels are game animals and that's a no-no. Put them in your Monty cubby holes for mice and up in any hole in your underbelly. A pack of 36 square bars cost $16. I have gotten my money's worth.

Oh no not the red squirrel thread again! PM me Dave and tell me how you got it out of your ceiling! I'll check out Home Depot for the goodies so I can put some in the Monte while it is setting at the farm or cabin although the moth balls all over the ground around it have worked so far! See you in Mackinaw, Dave!
The peppermint oil will go into the vents on Qtips also. There are many uses for the peppermint oil but that will be another thread! Like I said in a previous post-- you can buy small 1/2 ounce bottles in a two pack at CVS pharmacies also if you have one close or see one on your travels!
Good luck on getting that little critter in the ceiling. I had/have one up in my attic above my living room in my stick and have set traps and everything and no takers. Like you said, he doesn't get active until about 10 PM and it drives the DW nuts! I'll get some of the blocks from Home Depot and try that now!

Don't have to PM, Ron - he's still up there - somewhere. Smell went away in about two months... Still have no idea how he got up there. Apparently, neither did he.

Well it has been over a month since we started trying the different deterants every one suggested.
Irish Spring soap didn't work as we trapped mice right next to the soap.
Cedar ball had the same effect.
Dryer sheets, Bounce had no effect, even had one under a snap trap and still got a mouse.
Pure Peppermint oil seem to do the trick as we haven't had a mouse in the last 2 weeks.
The mouse in the ceiling is no longer
thanks for all the replies.

Wow, Allen, that's quite an experiment you conducted. I have no idea what is in pure peppermint oil that critters hate, but apparently they don't like being around the stuff.

Thanks for the report.
