Just bought our first Montana

I am proud to announce our newest addition to our family. We closed the deal on our 2007 Montana Fifth Wheel Model #3850 today. We live in New England and I can't wait to camp again. We in the process of looking for our truck. We want a used chevy diesel. You know the deal. They say to always put the cart before the horse, so we did. Any suggestions? Rosyriz

Welcome rosyriz to the MOC family.

You have made a great choice in the 3850 already and choosing a Duramax for your tow is another great choice. Seems to me you have your head in the right place.

Good luck.

Congrats on your new Montana! You have come to the right place to get all the information you could ever imagine. The Duramax is a great tow vehicle, I am on my 2nd one already.

Welcome to the Moc'ers , a crazy lot we are. Good choice of Montana and I know you are going to love it. You didn't say if you wanted new or used on the tow vehicle, but the Chev or GMG Duramax with an Allison Tranny is hard to beat. Course I am partial.

Congratulations on the new rig! If you find a good used TV, make real sure (GM/Ford/Dodge mechanics inspection) that it really has all of the equipment necessary for pulling. Statements by the seller are to be taken with a grain of salt in all cases. My old Pappy always said it was easier to deal with a known crook than an "honest" man. No issuses about trust to get past. LOL

Wow! Thanks everyone. I know the time spent on this site will be a blessing for our new adventures. We previously had a Class C, but this is our first Fifth Wheel. I can't wait to our new rig. I think our first stop will be our favorite campground in New England…Normandy Farms in Foxboro Mass. We have a possible lead on a 2000 Silverado. That is what my husband really wants and it sounds like that is very dependable. My next task is to figure out how to put a picture in my profile for this site. Thanks again. You will hear from me often. Rosyriz

A 2000 Silverado may not have the Duramax/Allison combination. I would be careful of any GM diesel pick-up without that combination. I think 2001 was the first year for the D/A. I had one and the only problems I had were with the fuel injectors and drive shaft U-joint, both of which were repaired under warranty, and changed in later year models. If you get an early Duramax, make sure that the injectors have been upgraded - ask a dealer to be check to be sure.

CONGRATULATIONS on your new Rig! It's a lot of work getting a new one setup the way you want, but don't forget to sit back and enjoy it too!

Thanks for reminding me that the Chevy doesn't have the better transmission before 2001. Saved me some heartache. Still searching for the right TV for us. Rosyriz

Congratulations on your new Montana. We also just got a new Montana for the first time, a 3500RL. We've had other Keystone products and have come to trust them. Take your time on picking the right TV, you do want to make sure you get one that can handle your rig. Happy camping....

Congatulations on the new Monty! We bought our truck used last fall and were lucky enough to find an '05 model with only 15K miles at a very good price. I hope you are as luck in your search. So far we're super pleased with ours!
