Your electric HW element runs off 110 VAC shore power ... not your batteries which are 12 VDC. Electric HW element won't have any effect on your batteries.

Chances are your elect. element is burned out. It takes only moments of being on with no water to burn it out.. You will want to empty the sediment in the bottom of the tank anyway. There are most likely videos on line to help with that.
