Hot Water Heater?
Hi folks, We've had our 3720rl since last Aug and it has both electric and gas water heater options (two separate switches). Was wondering can you turn on both at same time? Does that do anything to get faster return on hot water. Both gas or electric seem to heat up by themselves just fine. Just wondering.

You can use both. It will heat a little bit faster or recover sooner

We typically use electric only in hot weather. Heats fine and saves propane. But we have often camped in the mountains at over 8,500' elevation and it is often cold even in July. In that case we run the WH on both electric and propane because the incoming water is quite cold and the recovery time is better.

Hot water heater switch
Does the switch on the hot water heater need to be off and the one on the panel on to run it on propane?

No, the switch can stay on all the time, and you can control which mode, or both if the need is there, with the switches on the inside control panel. When you read the specs on these water heaters, the recovery time, that is the time it takes to reheat the water in the tank, is actually the time it takes with both modes turned on. We also normally run with just the electric mode, and add the gas mode if we are taking showers close together. When we are connected to a 30 amp electric service, we turn the water heater, as well as the fridge, to gas only so we don't overload the electric service.

You don't say what year model you have. If you have two switches inside, what rohrmann says is true.
However, if you only have one inside switch (as I do on my 2007 model) then the outside switch operates the electric and the inside switch operates the propane. So propane only would be the inside switch ON and the outside switch OFF. Inside switch OFF and outside switch ON would be electric only. Both switches on would be both electric and propane at the same time.

I've always put both on when possible. Gives close to endless hot water (at least both my wife and I can take showers right after each other).
