Running into MOCers on the road
While staying a couple of days at 7 Feathers RV Park and Casino we got a surprise visit from JackandH2O.... Ray and Janet Evans. They were up in the area enjoying the great weather in Oregon. They had just driven up the Hwy 395 route that we are taking on our way home......
Good to see you Ray and Janet. Have a great trip and hope we run into you again sometime.

Sharon,
You'll be happy to learn that we just bruised them. They will still be able to RV. Of course they may well run into someone else on down the road but now they will be on their guard so watch out!

Hey Dennis, there is still a little pain but the bruises are gone. haha
It was good seeing you and Mary Kay again. We pulled into Tillamook today, cheese and ice cream tomorrow.
The Oregon coast has been beautiful.

Ray,
Be sure and tour the airplane museum located there. I've visited the cheese factory several times but never the museum. I've heard it is a really good tour.
Glad the bruises are gone!
Have fun,
Dennis

Dennis,
How was the trip home on 395?
We're probably going to head that way when we head toward the beige country.

We also enjoyed that cheese factory this summer but didn't get the air museum done. It's on my "next time" list!

Hi Robbie,
We are still working our way south. Currently at Gardenerville. Will be headed down to Bishop for a couple of nights then on to home. It has been warm but today is cooler and by Monday will be about 30 degrees cooler!
We like to travel 395 just to get different scenery. Interstate 5 is much faster but pretty monotonous. The east side of the Sierras is so dramatic compared to the Valley side. Traffic is usually not too heavy and the road is pretty good. Weather permitting I'd certainly recommend it as an interesting alternative to the 5.
Where would you connect to 395? Would you take 80 over to Reno?
Enjoy,
Dennis

Robbie: 395 huh? Take a look at forecast for Mammoth Lakes next week. Chance of sn_w (can't even say it). We are out of here on Monday headed to Pahrump.
BTW: Dennis, you do know to avoid Bridgeport and Lee Vining for fuel. $3.99 last week. It was cheaper inside the park.

Dennis,
Thanks for the information, thought you were further down the road.....we'll most likely pull Donner Pass to get there. We're probably going to spend about a month in Santa Rosa. Will watch the weather closely before going over the pass.
Bigmurf, there is just about a 20* change in temps throughout the west coast starting Sunday evening and for us, full rain on Monday....we're leaving our boondocking experience (14 days) here on the North Umpqua River on Tuesday....hope to get the trailer washed off....and dumped...Thanks for the headsup on the fuel prices in Lee Vining and Bridgeport....I had forgotten, think I can cruise by.....I have two tanks.

Having recently been over Hwy-80, Donner Pass and the road construction near Reno twice, *DO NOT* go that way!!!!! The road conditions are terrible and the narrow lanes in the construction zone are a white knuckle experience or worse. Doug managed to rub his exhaust pipe on the bus up against the concrete barrier at one point. Add in the four to five mile backup before the construction zone as you move along at 5-10 MPH and consider what that will do to your mental health.
If you were going from where you are down Hwy-395 through Reno and then south, it would be fine. But don't take Hwy-80 from Santa Rosa through Donner Pass and east. Take one of the other routes over the Sierra's south of Hwy-80 (Markleville Hwy-89, Yosemite Hwy-108 or 120, etc.)

Thanks Butch, will take your advice.
I used to live in Truckee and used to travel I-80 frequently. About two years ago, I had the very same experience.....white knuckles, close clearances etc.....and man was the road rough!
Ok, we'll go another way..
