Storage Door Height

I am looking at storing my unit indoors when I get it and have access to an industrial unit that has 12' high doors. My rig will be 12'9" max height according to the Keystone specs and I am also adding a bedroom aircon which I imagine will raise the max height even more.

What I am wondering is, would it be possible to drop the front landing legs low enough to be able to maneuver the unit with, say, a forklift under the king pin in order to get it under the 12' door height.

Cheers
Craig

I have front air in 2007 3400.
Im 13'3", that would be a lot of drop.
Im also 13'2" over the axles, how would you drop that?

Going on the pictures (which is all I have at the moment) most of the height is over the front landing legs so I was hoping that if I have at least 12" of height in the landing legs I could drop the front low enough.

I know that I am not going to really know until I get the rig but I am impatient to know as much as I can beforehand.

you would need to drop the front almost 18 inches. You don't have enough clearance.

My unit is right at 13' at the front A/C. Then,I also have a satelite system, and rear A/C. I would not consider anything that gives me less than 6 inches of clearance. It just ain't worth it.

The question I would have is, how much affect would dropping the landing gear that much have on the four wheels for the rig that the weight may not be distributed evenly front to back. Even if you only have to drop the rig 1 foot in the front is a large difference and while there is some consideration for front to back on an RV's suspension, will this cause two front wheels of your rig to carry more than their share of the weight? If you just need to change the aspect to get it through the doorway, this temporary consideration shouldn't be a problem if it's possible to drop the front low enough. I hope you have plenty of height past the doorway and in the storage area to even things back up. and I hope you remember to duck your rig down when you bring it back out. Maybe a big sign in front of your rig that says "Ducka you head, Lowla Bridgeada". I love that line from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Another height consideration is any Vent covers and antennas on top of the rig. I believe my rig is about 12 1/2' and the 1 foot plus difference would make me nervous. A couple of inches I may not feel so bad, but 9" or more, ummmmm, I dunno...

btw KiwiRVer - How do you get your RV below the equator in the southern Hemisphere? Or is that why it's still only in the planning stages?

Please let us know if you are able to resolve this. Having a Storage shed for an RV is a plus!

Hi Art-n-Marge, My rig is staying in the States, my wife and I will be coming up there for 6 months a year to use it. I am actually looking at buying an industrial unit to house it in. I already have a business there so would just move the business into the industrial unit and use part of the warehouse for the rig. Only problem so far with this idea is the door height. If my original idea won't work I may have to look at altering the door to get more height.

Don't forget as front goes down the rear goes up. May be a problem. The ole see-saw effect. Could be an ops. JMO

Farmboy, yes you are right, and looking at the picture of lasaters rig I can see that my original perception that all the height was in the front was wrong. Oh well, plan B coming up.

you could always let air out of the tires to get it in the door. That and lowering the front might help.

I had the same issue with my '08 2955RL and my shop door, the door was 12', the rig is 12'9". I ended up switching the door to a 13'3" door. When backing in for the first time I was measuring as I went and the highest point on my rig was at the rear AC unit and the dome over the shower, I cleared each by 6". It would be my guess that you wouldn't make it with a 12' door.

dmaxmountaineer,
Moving the rig with the tires mostly deflated, even for a short distance, can do SERIOUS damage to the tires.

Sounds a lot like trying to push a piece of string uphill.
