Question about Thetford toilets??

Just curious...what's the deal with the Thetford toilet hatred? I'm sure there must be some pattern that emerges over time to get such a universal dislike, but for the moment, I'm loving our new Thetford toilet.

Just want to be prepared for what might occur...?

In the past they have leaked past the seal in the bowl. Under warranty Tetford would send out new ones and they didn't last either. Folks tried everything from oil to vaseline with no luck in the long run. Then some of us have had the pedal come off and at time not go back on. Others have had the flush valve litterly explode. Still others have had the flush valve not close entirely and the seal actually work and flood their rig, particularly if they went to the bathroom and then left the trailer. I'm sure there is more, but that's just what happened to me or what comes to mind. The reason Keystone still uses them, according to the President, is that they have few issues with them. When they fail we go straight to Tetford and so no case is made with Keystone.

When our first Thetford failed it was at 3 am and was 3 months old. JUNK! Make the switch to Dometic 320 if you have the little extra room or the 310 if not or maybe you like being awakened at 3 am by an upset wife or husband.

just got back from vacation, 2500 mile RT to WDW, rig is perfect. noticed the toilet bowl was almost full yesterday, dumped it, then watched, it was leaking by the valve and filling the bowl, shut water off. Not even a year old, just ordered a Dometic 320 off Amazon.....

I know this forum cost me a lot of money in improvements but horror stories like this are why i do some of the improvements i do. I changed mine last year to the 320 dometic and my wife had a hard time digesting why i threw out a 'perfectly' good toilet for the dometic. One hour and 200.00 gives me a lot of peace of mind. It seems it's not a matter of if but when.Pay now or pay latter. I prefer working on my rv at home in stead of on the road.

Keystone should reimburse all owners for toilet replacement.

For 65k they should install the dometic 320 at the factory in all montanas, so we don't all have to waste money and time installing and replacing a new toliet with a new toliet. The thetford toliet is a turd that can't hold a turd!

So how do you really feel about Thetford toilets?

LOSE TOILETS SINK RVs

New 2019 Montana 3120RL - toilet does not hold water in the bowl after flush. New to this 5th Wheel life with 5th wheel just a couple weeks since new. Better than I partner noticed that when we went to add a bio-Pak and water to the toilet that the bowl would not hold water - leaking past the seal. I assume this is a Tetford toilet and taking the rig back to the dealer will obviously yield little for results. Yes I understand RVs are not homes, travel the road, and are a bit prone to issues, but as WOJ states, for what we are paying, please make the simple work... Anyone try contacting Thetford QA directly or getting together to voice a known and evident issue to Keystone and Thetford? May not solve my issue but if it makes the purchase and experience for others better we all win. $200 for a Dometic..., hey Babe can I have $200 to fix a brand new never been used toilet? What say you? - Still happy with the purchase and understand the little things can be fixed before they are bigger things...

I was told by one Keystone president that they didn't know about the issue because they track recorded problems and this wasn't on the list Most of us took our complaints to Tetford and avoided Keystone. Now is the time for all of us who've had issues to call Keystone and complain. I also intend to bring it up again at this years national rally.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. It took a long time and a lot of noise, but Keystone finally payed attention to this group about the issue with the cheap tires they were putting on these rigs. I wonder how long it will take Keystone to start installing the Dometic toilets instead of the Thetford junk toilets.

Had a flood with the Thetford. Gonna buy the Dometic 320. Do I need anything other than the toilet, like a special flange of seal?

It should come with the foam seal. You may need a couple of shark bite fittings, as the Dometic water connection is on the opposite side from the Thetford.
