had that in our conversion van too, really horrible for 1 year, the van conversion company told us that it basically had to cook itself out, or CURE.

had a bit in Tana, lasted about 6 months, first 6 weeks were bad enough that I had to sleep with at least one window open to be able to breath some fresh air.

Crazy as it sounds, I always have a window open because of the smell. Even in the cold fall months.
This new unit is the worse we've had. Burns the eyes something awful. I worry about the animals too. Thank goodness for the vent covers. Have the vents open so that does help.

We had a member awhile back who had to sell the new rig because the odor and fumes were really bad and never after several months got enough better to be satisfactory to them. It's sad when that happens. On our three new Montanas we've had those fumes for a few days but ours always subsided rather quickly, compared to many.

We had fumes for about a week, and then it went away. We ventilated when we could (in between cold and rain storms) and now there is no noticeable odor.
I think the article is a bit over the top. There are always people out there who are going to sue if they blow their nose wrong. those are the ones that need to get a life.

We have had two Montanas and very little smell and for a very short time. We had a Damon Challenger MH once that the fumes were so bad that it kept setting off one of our detectors, can't recall which one now. (suffer from CRS)

Thanks for the article. Our Monty also had a strong smell, but not like some other at RV show that made my eyes water just to walk in. New RVs should be aired not. Ours is an 05 and still has its owner smell, I don't believe it is at all harmful now.

Besides the financial issues, this is another feather in the cap of buying a pre-owned unit. Let others breath the glue gases.

It's still very fresh in my memory...those fumes. The burning eyes, throat on fire, flu symptoms, vomiting. And a great time was had by all. I'm just glad that it's over now, that was NOT fun!!

We had none of those issues in our 06 3400. Never noticed a smell and Helen and I suffer from sever allergies..strange..it is however a interesting article and is a indication of what the bRV industry thinks of the consumer.

Mine lasted about two weeks. The old Cougar lasted about a month to air out. It's interesting how the "Sierra Club volunteer is absolutely sure it is causing cancer and OSHA, with all their research, is only "reasonably certain". Curious

I also seem to be very sensitive to the odors. The Big Sky in Tacoma has been on the lot since February.
I was in it a couple of weeks ago and the odor was still really strong. I would have to cover my nose and mouth with a handkerchief and then go outside every couple of minutes for some fresh air.......and yet my husband could hardly smell it. I think it acts as an allergan to some of us while others don't notice it at all. I've already told the dealer they'll need to air ours out really good before we take it.
Since we're going to be in ours fulltime, I am concerned about those first few months especially.

We have owned previous RVs that bothered us but our Montana was fume free right from the start.
As far as the cancer scare we all know of young children that come down with this horrible disease with little chance to accumulate toxins and then we all know the old geezers that have abused their bodies for 60 years and keep on ticking so it depends on your gene pool more than anything else.

This is probably not an option for all, but since DW has chronic asthma, the approach we have taken has been to buy units that the dealers have taken to RV shows and used on the lot for showing (extensively aired out). Of course we have to settle for whatever options are there already and have to do an extensive PDI as well as monitor warranty issues, but we have been fortunate in liking what we got. We did this for our Monty and previous TT and fortunately the units have never instigated an asthma attack. Knock on wood!!

Ours was set up in the showroom for a couple of months, so it was pretty well aired out. It still irritated the DW for a couple of weeks, but had no effect on me. The ones on the lot that hadn't been aired out were a different story. About 2 minutes was all I could stand when we were looking at them.

We had the dealer use an ozone mach. and was ok for about a week then the DW could tell it was there. Did some checking and tried a frends rec., 1 cup of ammonia in a GLASS contaner, set it in the sink, for 24 hr. Did this 2 times have'nt had any smell since.
