I just installed a Tyger roll up on my F-350 short bed. Covers the 5th wheel hitch nicely and easily rolls up and the included straps secure it there. It also locks when closed and you can’t open it until you lower the tailgate. It was also super easy to install. Bought it from Amazon - here’s the link:

I use the Ford hard cover quad fold low profile on a short box. I have the box cam I would not use a soft roll up I find them noisy on highway

Yep. I really love the bak flip. I also have a 60 gallon auxiliary fuel tank that fits under it too.

Chris, we have the ReTrax rolling bedcover on both of our trucks and really like them. The roll up into a box at the front of the bed. You do loose about 12-14" of the top of the bed but there is that space under the storage box for an additional/auxiliary fuel tank or anything you want to store in that space. I store my level-up block pads some fuel additive and a jug of DEF if needed while traveling. The ReTrax is metal and segmented. It will stay where you want it when retracted if you don't want to retract it all the way up also. I normally retract it about 3-4" in front of the hitch when towing. I also like it because I can slide the cover over the hitch and lock it when I'm not towing. Very little maintenance is required-- only lubing the slides with a silicone spray every so often and it's good to go.

I've used two covers on my trucks and both have pros and cons. First is the Peragon metal cover. It comes with several panels (depending on your bed length) and is lockable. The downside is when open it takes about six inches of the bed length and about 12 inches (maybe a little more) in depth. Also the pull strap flaps in the wind when towing (cover open) and when closing, the strap can run across the hitch throat, getting greasy.



The second cover is the Revolution from Extang. This cover is almost flat to the bed rails, does not cover the stake pockets and does not use Velcro even though it's a roll up. The down side is when rolled up you can't see the hitch. This hasn't been a problem for me. Please see the following websites for more information.

Hi there, we love our roll-n-lock cover. Keeps our slider hitch nice and clean and when not towing gives some security when hauling items, shopping etc. Just have to make sure your hitch is low enough to allow full use of cover.

On my 2011 F250 w/RDS 40 gal fuel tank-tool box, I have a Bak Flip II, 4 folds. Modified the tool box by removing the lid, and adding a rubber seal around the top. The fourth fold covers the tool box water tight and leaves the fifth wheel hitch clear. When not towing, the Bak Flip seals the bed nearly water tight and with the electric tail gate lock, provides a semi-secure place to store stuff. The Bak Flip also supports weight up to 500 lbs so I can walk on it to clean the cab top.

I'm very happy with my Retrax roll-up hard surface cover. Less than a 1/2 inch above the bed and disappears out of sight when hitching. Has keyed lock and can be latched in any position.

What ever brand you purchase I would suggest a snap down cover vs the Velcro cover We have the velcro and after 11 years the velcro has deteriorated and will no longer hold. We had the snap disown cover on our last truck and although it can be difficult to snap at times it will last a lot longer.

I have a Truxedo roll up cover on my Ram 2500.. works well..rolls up easily, can't open without tailgate down... I added 2 Swing Case tool boxes... they mount on the inside of the box, just inside the tailgate, and swing out to access.. they have hinged tops with a key lock... best feature: I don't have to climb into the bed to access my tools & stuff..
Downside: I have to lift one off to pull the release for my slider hitch...

I also have the Bak Flip on an 8 ft bed and I have the transfer flow 50 Gal aux tank in my bed that fits under my cover. I also replaced my 36 gal factory tank with a 61 gallon one so I have 111 gal capacity
The bak flip doesn't cover my back window while towing. I just fold it open twice and it lays flat. Now if I open it all the way yes it will cover my back window but there is no need to open it all the way when I tow my camper. Maybe on a short bed you might,

Thanks for your reply. We went with the Tuxedo XP15 pro roll up. We prefer the roll up as we will load kayaks in the truck bed and the sectional covers will block the rear window visibility. Had it installed earlier this week along with the B&W companion 5 wheel hitch

Congrats on your truck purchase and tonneau cover. You'll love the Ford truck, I've owned all three major brands over the years and my 6.7 is by far my favorite. I also use a Truxedo roll up, it has served us well. Keeps the bed dry when needed. Safe travels!

We just added a peragon hard cover. It folds like an accordion, and sits in the bed up against the cab, or can easily be removed in seconds.
