No Locking Ring On 50 AMP Plug?
We picked up our new 2008 3500 Montana last week. I noticed there is NO locking ring on the female plug for the 50 amp plug.
Is this normal? My 2008 Mountaineer has this feature. The dealer says this the way Montana does it.
What keeps it locked when you turn it in?
Thanks for any answers in advance on this!
Again, this is a Great Forum!

There should be a locking ring on the plug. Make them change it. Go out on their lot and look at some other trailers and I'll bet they are handing you a line of crap. My 2009 has a ring.

On my 2006, it does not have a ring on the outside, but when I plug it in, then I twist it to the right and it locks in place.

Our '08 3400 did not have a ring, but was also the twist lock type.

Same here on our 08 there is a locking ring on the trailer plug, but I just use the twist locking cord which does not have a locking ring. Works just fine. No problems. My 30 converter pig tail has a locking ring and has a twist lock. I don't use the locking ring. The twist lock sees simpler to use.
I think the locking ring would be better to use since it would secure the plug better and maybe in the very long run prolong the life of the plug in the trailer.

No ring here either. Just plug in give it a twist to lock and it has always stayed in place.

No ring on ours either. But the twist lock feature holds it securely.

We have never used the ring. Insert and twist. Remains attached.

No ring on my 09. Will use a bungee cord from the ladder to card by plug to reduce pressure on the plug.

It seems from the posts that in 2009, they started putting locking rings on SOME of the trailers but not all of them. Curious. The ring keeps the twist plug in position even if it gets bumped. I prefer to have it but apparently, many do not have it and don't have problems.

Same here as the NCFischers. The cord that came with the rig twists on and this is what we keep in the rig and use when we travel. When I am at the stickhouse I use another separate twist-on that DOES have the ring lock. For a trip, I unplug from the rig, drag it a 2 feet into the garage where it waits for our return.
I think the twist lock is strong enough and don't expect to ever bump into it. I just wish I had 90 degree plugs, because the cheap cord with no strain relief that came with the rig is starting to separate at both connectors, exposing the insulated wires. I am not looking forward to the cord weight being held up by the insulating wires themselves. UGH. I'll have to find after-market strain reliefs and "fix it right"!

Art,,
In lieu of strain reliefs, I used electrical tape and taped both ends very tight and they seem to hold up well.

I always thought that the lock ring helped keep out moisture.

I talked to the dealer yesterday.....they said some trailers come with the locking ring & some don't. Also, they told me to bring in the cord & exchange it with the one from my Mountaineer which has the locking ring.
But after reading all the replies here, I really don't know what to do. It is actually easier to use the one without the locking ring.
Oh well.................

Bet this has to do with who made the cord, some mfgs.use them and some don't. Depends on whose product Keystone has laying in the stack. JMHO
