Is extra warranty necessary? Did you buy it?
We have just bought a 2010 Montana 3150RL and we are picking it up on March 31st. The sales guy called me this afternoon asking if I was planning on taking the extended warranty. I'm the type of person that feels that if something is going to wear out, or be a problem it will happen in the first year.
Being that I don't know a lot about Montana's reliability I would appreciate your input on whether you bought an extended warranty, or not. I would like to know whether or not it is something worthwhile considering the cost is an extra $2400.00 for 7 years.
We appreciate your input.
Thank you
David

Buy the warranty. At $95 an hour, the price for service at any dealership gets to be bad news in a hurry. In our experience, anything we buy that has a 1 year warranty, will break right after that warrany expires. We bought the extended warranty with our 3075 and we also have Good Sam's ESP. We average over 10,000 miles a year in our rig and the warranties are worth their weight in gold to us.
By the way, welcome to the best source of RV knowledge on the internet.

The extended warantees, are worth it. Ours has almost paid for itself, one more thing and it will. Check around that is a little high some found it for around $1500.00 for 7 yrs, ours was lest than that. It depends on the deductable, mine is $50.00 each occurance. Hope this helps.

I have had one since owning my '06 3400 but have not used it yet. I dread the day I have to but I am counting on it at some point. We are planning on keeping ours for some time. If you are the type to trade up every several years then I don't think I would buy it.....

We bought one with our new 3475 in 2006. It was $2100--and it has already paid for itself. If you are lucky like Phil--don't buy one and head to Las Vegas. If you are not so lucky--I would not leave the dealer without it. As far a resale, our expires in 2013--I will probably sell it by then and the new owner will get the full benefits--might help the sale.

We purchased it and it has paid for itself. Check around because you can get and good one for less than $2400.00. I got mine mine through Warranty Experts for $1121.00 with a $50.00 deductible. There are others on the form that went with them also and I think everyone has been pleased with them. I know I have.

We bought the extra 6 years as we felt it was a necessity when running an RV product, simply too many things to go wrong over a period of time. Also a good selling feature when you are selling a used product.

Years ago you could buy from Sears and be assured that you had a great product. Not so anymore. Technology has advanced so much that there are so many things that can go wrong. For my money, buy the extended warranty. It's like buying collision insurance; you hope you don't need it but it's there if you do.

I re-read the original post. No, extended warranty is not necessary. Yes, I did buy it. I am ever so happy that I bought it and I'd buy it again.

We have one through Star RV and have used it for a furnace circuit board repair and labor on upcoming refrigerator door replacement. It came with our RV and we are certainly glad it did. We will be extending it when the time comes.

We just got done buying an extended warranty from Wholesale Warrantys for 7yrs. The original quote was $1282 and we got him to drop it to $1120 with a $50 deductible. Didn't get the $0 deductible on tires and wheels. That would have been $349. Call and ask for Jeff Shelton at 800-939-2806 ext 701 or his cell phone at 651-343-0330. Tell him Jeff Kuhnhenn sent you.

We just bought one through "Wholesale Warranties" as well. $1197 for six years with a $50 deductible. The thing I liked about them is that the warranty starts the day you buy it not the day you bought the rig as most others are. One thing you do want to do is buy it before your factory warranty expires. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the largest TV that is covered under the standard warranty is 32". They do offer an additional rider for $250 that will cover the larger TV's that are most of the newer rigs. You can just do a Google search for Wholesale Warranties. Jeff or Stephanie will be glad to help you out.

i bought one too... just make sure you look at the deductable... mine is $100.00 which now that i think of it, its alot. I forget how much i paid for it but with the cost of labor they charge and parts, its well worth it. Things dont usually go wrong in the first two years or so its normally a few years later... its also a good idea when you want to go ahead and sell it. I would rather buy one with a warrenty then one without it.

Interesting topic. I bought the Good Sam Extended Warranty which is billed once a year or by the half year or quarters. Little extra if you go less than one year for payments. I pay $351.00 per year with a $200.00 deductible. I just got renewed for the year this last month, but it appears I may have to look into this a lot better. The pricing being quoted here is a lot less than mine with a much better deductible.
One question on this subject. With Wholesale Warranties does it matter how old the RV is as far as the cost of the plan? Mine is now 3 yrs old and I do know that it changes on the GSP the older the unit gets.

Dave,
I don't know the answer to your question for sure but I would bet it does. You can request a quote from them through their website though. They are not pushy and we didn't get flooded with mailings, phone calls and e-mails as we did when we requested a quote through Good Sam.

Checked the Wholesale Warranties website and they do not sell to the general public, so a person has to buy it through a RV dealer or service centre. Being that I'm a Canadian there is a company called Sal Protection Plan based out of Vancouver BC. The dealer quoted me $2295.00 for 6 yrs., which is $382.50 per year. The dealer said that I have until the 11th month to buy it, but if I buy it after the 11th month I only get 4 months coverage. The RV dealer said that if I buy it at the time we pick up the 5th wheel they will make the deductable $0.00 and if we don't have to make a claim during the 6 yrs we will have our money refunded less a $200.00 admin. fee.
Thank you for all your input. We greatly appreciate it.
We pick up our 2010 Montana 3150RL on March 31st, and we are getting pretty excited.
Regards,
David

David,
I think you may have gone to the .com website instead of the .net website. Try this link and it should take you to where I bought ours: Warranty. I hope this helps.
