Broke into again!

Got a call from my storage park with bad news that my trailer was broken into again.
I got down there and thay poped the skinny window by the lounge chairs I guess it was too small to enter, so the screwdrivered the lock and accesed the RV from the front door, the alarm did go off and nothing was taken from the trailer, I guess the alarm going off made them nervous, I did have to buy a new door lock from Delux RV Supply for 45.00 + tax which was better than the last brake in, which cost me and my insurance co about 3800.00.
The trailer next to me didnt do that good, he had a $250,000 Procha race car in side his trailer. they busted the lock and rolled the car out and cut the chain link fence in the back of the lot with a cordless saw that had a carborindum blade and cut the fence in a straight line a foot from the top of the fence, just like somebody snaped a chock line on it and cut it straight as an arrow, they pushed the car out of there and on the river bed property and away from there, I dont see how the did that at 5:24 AM today without sombody seeing it. I have some pictures But I have to post them and make a tag then I'll let you see what Im talking about. by for now.

OK
Fence cut.

I believe I would be looking at a different storage site. If they came back twice then they aren't concerned about being caught. Find a more secure storage area. If it costs me a few dollars more a month it's worth it for piece of mind.

Wow Trailer Trash! DW saw your pictures and we were both angry for you!!! We are very familiar with Santa Fe Springs since we go by it all the time and there's a Camping World right there. I bro-in-law used to live near there. It's all too familiar. It reminds me of when I lived in East L.A. and someone broke into my car and stole my stereo by completely cutting out the center console!

Awful thoughts start coming to mind. I have NO sympathy for the thieves that get caught. You've gotta wonder when the storage place is gonna invest in some security cameras and alarms on behalf of their customers. I think that's what saved you. If they had hit you first the car may not have been stolen.

Don,

I know this stuff can happen anywhere but this being the second time....... Makes me think it is someone with the outfit that runs the storage or they have absolutely no one watching what is going on. Or they are all deaf in that part of the world!

I'd be looking for another place.

Good luck.

Don,

Wow! I thought it was just the second! Time to go! Go as fast as you can. Also start a campaign to tell others about the extremely poor security. Perhaps if they go out of business the crooks will go somewhere else. Get out as fast as you can.

So sorry you've had this type of thing happen.

Don, is that the same Deluxe RV in Bellflower I used to go to 30 years ago. They were great people.

It's a crying shame we can't all work for what we want.

We are really fortunate that we can keep our camper on our property. You need to find another storage place. These are hard times and we need to be on the alert at all times.

Looks like the alarm system just paid for itself.

I agree about the alarm but also that I would be looking for another site to store it, preferably one with better security. Don, is that short chain link fence all that is supposed to keep people out? I think I'd be looking for something with a far better fence, to start with.

I'm sorry to hear about the door lock and window but thankfully that was all the damage.

Ray , yes that is the same Delux RV, its a great place, Ive been shopping there sence the 70's.

Steve thats all there is on the fencing I am paying $85 per mo which is cheap for LA normally there 160. to 200 a month. thats one reason I'm still there.

mudchief I hope that what happened with the alarm, and if it did it has paid for itself.

I'm going to call the company that makes the alarm and see if they have a paging system that can be attached to the system so it can call my cell phone and notify me of a Breach of security.

That sucks, just plain sucks. This isn't a case of some kids screwing around, these were professional thieves. Time for the owner to get serious about security. Professional thieves go after the easy score, and obviously, this place fits that category. Even if it raised the rent $20 a month per person to hire a watchman, it would be worth it.

They have a person that lives on site, believe it or not, he is the Bro in law of the owner. he states he was out for breakfast at 0524 hrs. that day I find that hard to believe.
As for the alarm washley1, The company is in Australia I sent them a e mail for a distributer here in the USA the person I used to deal with I think the econimy has taken him away, I think they have a add on for the unit to call my cell phone if a breach happens.
The person that lost the race car said that the owner has to have insurance a lawyer will probably give him the right scoop on a law suit.
I will start ot look for another parking spot, maybe closer to his house, it seems that most of the roberies are in the rear portion of the storage lot where it is out of eye and ear sight.

In 2000, just before we started full timing, our rig was stored in a "secure" lot and the lot was broken into. Several units had broken windows (this was in November). The people didn't even find out about the break-in until early spring. You can imagine what kind of ruination occurred to their units with all the snow and rain. Our unit, fortunately had only the handle on the door sprung to get into. I hadn't locked the dead bolt. We lost our TV, Stereo and VCR. For us, our dealer went to Best Buy and procured pretty good replacements -- RCA TV and Aiwa stereo.

The worst part? Owner of the lot was not held liable!

Thanks for all the incouraging words, and sugestions on moving, I will start to look, but it will be very hard to do in LA real estate is at a prime for rv Storage, and to have a, so easy to park spot.

Hmmm, Don, maybe the solution is to hit the road fulltime and thus avoid having to store the rig?
