Montana - Mountaineer recall elec. system


Model Year 2010

Recieved yesterday a recall: Keystone is recalling certain fifth wheel trailers with generator ready option. If the transfer switch is not installed to the proper specifications, the elevated electrical loads associated with the recreational vehicle use in higher ambient tempertures may cause overheating of the lugs and degrading of the electrical connections.

Overheting of the connections could result in a fire.

dealers will inspect and replace the transfer switch if necessary free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during December 2010. Owners may contact keystone customer service at 1 866 425 4369. saety recall # 10-153. may also contact the national highway traffic safety administrations vehicle hot line at 1-888 327 4236.

Potential number of units affected 6297.

Yea, I got the same notice...You gotta love the first sentence of the notice:

"This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Ace."

They then go to a new paragraph. The way this is worded I get the impression that they really didn't want to notify us at all
but they had no choice because it was mandated for them to do so. They did apologize in the next paragraph for any inconvenience
this action will cause us. It just goes to show you that the way something is worded can give the wrong inpression to different
people as this did to me. I'm sure that it was not the company's intention for this to occur.

From reading it, I think the issue is just some loose wires. Tighten the wires real good and I think the problem is solved.
If the lugs are discolored and signs of bad overheating is seen, then they will replace the part.
Here is an extreme case of electrical overheating:
