Mount sattellite antenna ??? - Montana Owners Club

Where would you mount a crank-up sattellite antenna on a Mountaineer 324RLQ ?? Obvious location would be over the bed but.... vent fan is located there and will probably need to be replaced with a second AC unit. Unfortunately, I bought the antenna without giving thought to where it could be mounted. Winegard "strongly" recommends that the antenna be mounted on the centerline. Help please

The centerline is the best location. I looked at your floor plan and it looks great. If you have no room over the bedroom or bathroom you may have to mount the dish further back on the roof. You should have no problem snaking the wires through the ceiling however you may need a small step stool to set up the dish. Wish I could be more help. I installed mine behind the bedroom vent (3500RL). Good luck. I'm sure others will be along to be of greater help.

We had both of ours mounted by our dealer. If the dealer is close, I'd stop by the service department and ask for some advice. They have surely done it before and can give you some advice. Both of ours were mounted back from the bedroom vent about on the centerline of the unit. You may also want to get the dimensions of the A/C unit you want to install and then figure how far back it would extend and then figure how much clearance would be required for the dish. I made mine portable by mounting it on a 1'x2"x8" piece of wood. That way I can put it wherever I want to in the event there are too many trees.

The little that I have learned: the farther north you travel, the closer to the southern horizon is the bird, so trees are more of a problem; and the more trees there are (in a broad, statistical sense, leaving out the land of little sticks and the tundra). So, we bought a tripod and dish that we can place anywhere on our site to dodge the trees. People in the south wouldn't have to think about this as much.

We aren't exactly in the south and haven't had a problem. When we make reservations, we let the campground know we have a roof mounted satellite. With few exceptions, we have not had a problem.

Ron, it looks like all of Wisconsin is on a parallel with southern Ontario and I know, from my visits to Madison, that parts are very similar. We tend to gravitate toward well-treed campsites. Maybe I'm just too cheap to buy the full-on roof-top dish and I'll be changing my mind after setting the darn thing up a few too many times!

We were surprised how well the new Traveller worked even in trees. Exav8tr (Phil) showed us his at the last rally. Since we do mostly weekend camping, with a week here and there, we are usually setting up at 9 or 10 at night on Friday. It's nice to be able to put the slides out, hit a button, and be watching television. Especially with the new HD dishes, it really is slick to be able to just hit the button. We have not had a bad signal yet with this new dish. The old one (single LNBF Winegard) was much flimsier and not near as good at pulling in a signal.

Well, I just spent 45 minutes messing with the dish on a tripod, trying to pull in two satellites simultaneously, each with its own LNB, for Bell Express-Vu HD. That Traveller is looking better and better....

Thanks to all who replied. Much good info and encouragement. Soon as the heat breaks below 90 degrees, I'll climb up on that sucker and start drilling holes. Have done a dry run at home in my ac shop and there is nothing difficult about the installation once you find the clearance you need on the roof, with accessiblility inside the camper. Thanks again.
