Slide floor

We are building some furniture and storage to replace the original 11' wraparound couch in our living room. Can I just screw the frame down on the slide (carpet removed)? Do I need to worry about anything under the subfloor?

Off hand I don't know the exact thickness of the flooring on our fivers. I think it's just @5/8" plywood. My dining room table is screwed to the floor right over the carpet. You need to determine fairly accurately what the slide floor thickness is. The bottom of the slide floor glides up a teflon ramp and over the inside carpet or linoleum. Should any screws protrude out the bottom of your slide, it will tear stuff up. There is no wiring or water lines running inside the flooring itself ... that runs in looms close to the outer wall. Take a look underneath sometime.

I recently had to move my table and the dealer said that as long as i used the same screws that came out of the table legs that i would be ok. That seems to be the case. Perhaps if you removed one of them and measured it you could use ones that are that length and be ok.

Another reason not to come thru the floor is that the slides are your wheel wells so you don't want to open any holes for water to start working on.

Nothing is screwed into the slide now, so I can't compare anything. It feels like a significant piece of plywood. My plan just needs a little anchoring, and the screws will penetrate just under 1/2", so I think I am safe.

Thanks for the input.

A simple small drill bit can answer your questions regarding the allowable depth to drill. I do believe it is 5/8" as others have mentioned, but worth verifying.

Extend the slide, use a half inch screw and screw it into floor. Go outside, underneath the slide and look to see if it is protruding. If it is, remove and seal with silicone and then use a smaller screw.
