Very impressive, but aren't Dodge and Chevy also coming out with more fuel efficient vehicles for 2011. If they really want to compare apples to apples they should compare all the same model year. But I do like what they have done.

I am not promoting anything just found it an interesting test. If one company puts on the test I feel the results would be someway leaned to their favor. However I have always favored Fords for myself. I guess maybe because I started out with Fords, 1928, 1929, 1949 1956bird and Ford has kept me satisfied.

I think you're right Rich! Seems a little fishy to me since they compare their 2011 to two units that are 2010. Chevy and Dodge are both coming out with better fuel efficient power plants and also with some added equipment on them such as exhaust braking and etc. I'm waiting to see what the other two of the Big Three come out with before comparing or commenting!

I dont know my Bro in law has a new ford with 433 gears and gets at the most 18 with nothing in his Ford pulling he get 10 & 11 mpg he and I are always compairing our trucks preformance and milage. the Dodge got 16mpg on the test, and the Ford got 21mpg? I dont remember the Chevy but I think it was 18mpg. did all the trucks have the same gears? I find it very hard to believe there numbers and if Ford is saying that there good numbers, then they should be able to put it on the average MPG sticker on the window tag in the show room floor. or put that on TV when they advertise there Heavy Duties. Sorry I find it very hard to swollow.

I like Ford's but I think they stacked the deck.. I think Chevy and Dodge should be the same model year too. Take if further, I would like them to pull the same 5th wheel, since 1,500 lbs in the back of the truck doesn't really prove anything, that is just enough to smooth the ride out.

The big improvement is the six speed trans they finally put in the Ford.. has been a long time coming.

When you watch the fuel consumption glass it appears that the Dodge was doing better than the other two until very near the end of the test. Also dodge has a very high rear end ratio. why do they not match the gearing to make it a comparable test, which it clearly isn't. These tests are not creditable unless performed by an impartial tester.

The engineer said, "lowest numerical drive ratio". What's that for the three trucks?

If you take the time to look at the "Vehicle Specifications" clickie Ford posted, you would see (among other info) the following Gear Ratios:
  • Dodge: 3.42:1
  • Ford: 3.31:1
  • Chevy: 3.73:1
As stated elsewhere, those appear to be the lowest available for each of the brands. They did say they used the models that were available at the time of filming.

P.S. Have you seen a 2011 Chevy or Dodge? Dodge will be using the current 6.7L motor as it already meets the new EPA standards. The new Chevy motor hasn't made an appearance yet (AFAIK).

P.P.S. You are aware there are three test in the ad, one being towing test using a 9750 Lb. load in a goose-neck trailer?

Of course this is an advertisement, not a public service ad. It has slightly more credibility than a campaign ad (such as those we are being inundated with here in CA).

I can't believe they claim "apples to apples to apples" and don't even use the same year vehicles. This is a real joke, do they think we are stupid or something??? Why don't they just state what their truck gets and let the rest of us figure out what our is? Like comparing a Big Mac to a Whopper to a BK Broiler. I think Ford will lose some credibility if they continue to compare this way.......
