Yeah, mention "tube tester" to a younger person today and they'll probably think it has something to do with a fertility clinic.

FYI - Tubes are coming back in style on high end audio equipment -- the tones given out by such are more mellow, less clipped than the digital. The question is going to be, where to get them tested and by whom.....

As for the rest -- some great memories...

With few exceptions, I remember them all.
Here's a few more:
steel dashboards
milk in gallon jars (had to skim the cream off the top)
buying eggs from the farmer
bias ply tires
3 cent Zero bars
10cent sodas
buying bacon and having the store slice it because it didn't come pre- packaged
Red Skelton
Koolaid straws
commodities (ate more chili and cornbread than I care to admit)
25 cent .22 shells

LOL Tom S. (#10 & #22 - you got me on the L.S.F.M.T., what's that?). You guys are real old. I only go back as a youngster to remember these additional items:

"3 cent" stamps.
"cent" symbol on the typewriter.
A "typewriter"
"Multi features" (not just double features) in the same theater for the same price of admission!
NO "multiplexes"
"Asbestos siding"
NO "seatbelts".
NO "AIDS".
"Sugar cubes" to prevent "Polio".
Only "books" in the library.
A "choke" to start your car (thank God I missed this one - I remember my Dad and Uncles messing with it).
Great public school classes from K to 12th - music, art, field trips, etc.
An onsite nurse at school.
"78" Records and some records were real thick.
"Stackable" record players (early form of multi disc player?) - I was always amazed how only one record would drop at a time.
"Paper maps" - no GPS, no internet, no Mapquest.
"Shocks" not Struts, "Drums" not discs, "30 weight" not multiple viscosities, round headlights fit all vehicles, auto parts stores that sold every part for every car for every year with no "you need to go to the dealer for that".

Wow, I could go on but I am not as old as you guys. LOL!

Art,
LSMFT Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco
Submarine Races- Murray the K., a New York based DJ started it. You would go to the beach at night with your girlfriend and listen to Rock & Roll and watch the submarine races.
Sears catalogs and corn cobs were both used in outhouses.

Good Lord, I'm old!
