Heater Filter
Does anyone know if there is a filter in the furnace that needs to be changed and if so, where is it? We have a 3295rl.

I don't think there is any filters in the heating system. This is our second Montana and I couldn't find any. We purchased some
precut filters that fit the vents. They are throway type that I change every season. You can find them in Lowes, home depots, etc.

They do not have filters on them. At least they did not as of the 2002 models. You might do a search here on the MOC because I remember someone made a filter for their furnace. I think that is a good idea and one of these days I'll get around to it!

I asked that question a while back and got the same reply, no filter. But I also think it should have one.

Putting a filter in my Monty is on the-to-do list. I have a 16x20 filter that I'll use behind the furnace intake grill. When the weather cools down i'll let you know how it went.

I didn,t think ours had one either but when I pulled the grill off one was there. Very simalr to the ones you put in the register only big. Ours is a 2001 2955RL. It is a good idea to have one as it keeps the dirt out of the fan.

When I pulled the grill off to see about installing a filter there, I discovered that it wouldn't make any difference...the furnace is in an area that is open all around to whatever air makes its way under the sink and kitchen cabinet areas. The grill is just one source of that air. I did put some filter material in front of the various louvered areas I could find on the furnace box itself. May just be our particular model, but probably not..
Best,

I was looking in the heater cabinet and thought about closing the rest of the cabinet off from the heater and making it pull air thru the filter and not the remainder of the cabinet space.

patodonn is correct. The only way a filter will work is if the furnace is ducted to the return air grill which it is not. In all my years of owning a RV I have not had one that had a filter at the furnace. I am a HVAC guy, not a HVAC tech., and I have thought about the filtration system a lot but the way these furnaces are installed in our units you cannot put a filter in them. I think that the furnace they use also will not perform well if we restrict the air flow with a filter (I believe I read that in the furnace literature somewhere).

Installed the filter on the furnace this week. It turned out to be a simple 1 hour job on my 05 2955RL. I opened the return air grid then removed the 1x1 board at the bottom of the return opening and installed a 16x20 inch filter. The opening is an exact fit of the filter. The piece of wood was put back in behind the new filter to hold it in place. Replace the grid and your done.
PJ a little tape and foam will take care of the holes in the cabinets and keep out the cold air that will come in threw the holes in the floor.
Doug the filter should work in this location as the return air is brought to the furnace through the return air grid.
