Small generator extended run gas tank

When I visited Quartsite, I noticed a bunch of small generators running to recharge batteries. Adding gas to a hot generator is very dangerous, and the tanks are pretty small, so I modified a Marine gas tank for extended run. Thought I would share the mod. I use the system on the way from Kansas City to Arizona, running the generator going down the road charging my 6 G.C. batteries.

Notice:
I am not an ‘Expert’ in gas tank modifications, I do not claim to be in any way knowledgeable in every aspect of fluid handling, or flammable liquids.
I do know a bit about Geocaching and hiding stuff in the Desert.

Ozz, Where did you get your gas caps for the generator?

FYI .... Because we have the companion Honda set...., we are able to unplug from one when it runs out, and plug in to the "cold" one. "If" we are mindful, (and remember) we try to re-fuel in the warmth of the day when the generators have been off for a few hours.

We passed you leaving the circle yesterday morning. Wish we could have met & shared a few minutes of conversation. . Perhaps next year?

Hi Guys, I came up and knocked on your door, but you were gone. I wanted to see a bunch of people, but many were out, or hiding from me
I had a head cold with no coughing, but have evolved into a nasty cough. Just can't get completely well.
I hope you are doing OK now Bob. I may not make it back up if I don't come out of this.

I bought mine a couple of years ago from www.Midwesthuntandfish.com they work well. I have also seen them at Gander Mountain. They are called the Berg red cap system.

Ozz—Regarding weight that needs to be considered when adding accessories to my RV: I use 4 golf cart batteries on my sailboat for “house bank” storage batteries for years with good results. Being new to the RV lifestyle, I have read that weight should always be considered when adding accessories to the unit. Will the 6 golf cart batteries create too much extra weight in the front of my RV? I need know if it will create a problem? Your response would be greatly appreciated. - Jim

Hi Jim,
I have 6 in mine, plus a big Magnum Inverter, the jacks still work and my truck yanks it around like it is a light trailer.
Weight does have to be considered, but we all customize our trailers for our lifestyles. If you feel you want the extra batteries like you had in the sailboat, I think you will be fine with them. So many of us have 4 or more batteries and I haven't heard of any weight problems.
