want to add 2nd A/C

I want to install the A/C in the bedroom, what type has everyone added. Did you tie it into the existing duct work?

Just got mine added yesterday. Just put a Coleman 13.5 btu on and did not add to the duct work. Figure it will only be used during the day and at nite the main AC never has a problem keeping up so we want the ducts into the bedroom to stay the same. In the heat of the day the front one will dump into the bedroom and the rear if you open the vents at the AC will dump into the living area. Done this way the install is quick and easy. Since I could not do it myself the dealer charged me $900 total.

My '06 front bedroom rig has what was called the "2nd AC Prep" option back when we bought it new. When I finally took the area apart to check what was available, there is AC power for it and a spot in the distribution panel (CB) and that's it. Tying into the existing duct work would require much more work and there is no control wire to the main thermostat, so for me it would be a discrete unit that blows into the bedroom using its independent controls and we would close the overhead vents in the BR for the original unit so the air goes into the others area from the original unit.

If we ever get the second unit we'll use it like steelpony in that we'll either use it to add more air at the front of the rig that blows downward and helps the original unit, or use it as a solo unit in the BR for hot nights and not use the main. We'll just have to remember to have 50 amps to avoid power failures or brownouts if both are going to be used.

Others were able to include the control wires and ducting and but I'm guessing your rig may vary. Either way, adding more air will certainly help!! Being able to control the air at the main thermostat control would be more convenient, but a second A/C of any kind would be wonderful.

We had it ducted into the living room from the bedroom. The reason was that when we have people over we can turn off the a/c in the living room which makes it much quieter. I am glad that we had it ducted. We had yours added before we pick it up from the dealer. jim

We put on the 13.5 Penguin tied into the duct work and added as zone 2 on the t-stat. Worked fine for us. Would use the front AC in the evening while watch the tele, then at bed time, switch an run the living room. During the heat of the day, both running into the duct work to provide a good strong cool air flow.

Depending on the year of your trailer a second ducted A/C could be a very simple install. It the ductwork is not pre-configured due to being an older unit you will need to go with a freeblow assembly. Freeblow installs work well as long as you don't have a side aisle bathroom floorplan.
