2nd A/C Added

Found a decent price for a 2nd A/C and purchased it. I had a friend help me with the installation. Great to have friends like that! The installation went very smooth and much easier than I anticipated. Turned it on and everything works great. Plan to stay cool this summer.

Nice to hear of another "do it yourselfer". The hardest part is getting it up on the roof, then the next hardest part is removing the "dum dum" from around the hole left behind by the vent removal. After it settles in for a while, you might want to check the 4 bolts that hold the unit on the roof ... they may need another turn or so.

Believe it or not, you don’t even have to put down a sealer. The way these A/C’s are made they have a foam seal they sit on. Whenever you get it positioned you place a shroud on the inside and tighten up. There are only 4 bolts that holds everything in place. This pulls the unit tightly against the roof and makes the seal by compression.

We tested it with a water hose by spraying around it on the roof and not a drop of water could be seen from inside. I did have a little fun at my friend’s expense though… While he was spraying the roof I watched from the inside. I yelled at him after a few minutes to “STOP! STOP!” Then When I came outside I told him “it’s not leaking.” Had a good laugh making him think we had a big problem.

I agree the biggest job is getting it to the roof but you do need more than one set of hands.

Just added mine last June right before we left for Palo Duro Canyon State Park. And am I glad I did. It was 109 as we were entering the park. The one AC would do ok after it finally cooled down the trailer. But with temps like that it would not have cooled it down until after dark.
Had CW do mine as I had no way to get it up there. I felt the install price was reasonable so I had them do it and it turned out great.

Ahhh yes, memories! We installed ours last summer. I put DW on the roof, tied a rope around the new a/c and she pulled the rope while I climbed the ladder pushing/holding/grunting that sucker up ahead of me! Quite a job I hope never to repeat but happy we got it accomplished.

You guys will love the new unit, nothing like taking an afternoon nap on a hot day with cool air blowing on you!

Bill, well worth the effort. You can keep em fairly cool to a degree(pun intended) with one, but when it gets hot, the second one is worth its weight in gold. Congrates on a do it yourself, job well done.

We were at that Canyon last Sept. At the trailheads there are thrmometers posted. Everyone of them read 119*. Both AC's going at the same time got it down in the 80's inside. Never again back to that place, just to dag blame hot for us!! LOL

Nothing like working outside on a HOT afternoon, going in to take a shower but, before you step into the shower, you turn on that AC unit. Then, when you come out to towel off, you have ice-sickles hanging from things they shouldn't be hanging from!
