Whoa!! Somebody throw me a torch..............NOT........ Great Video Wayne. I doubt I would ever do anything like this but I will keep my eyes open when in and around a tire shop, or anywhere else for that matter. This should be required viewing for anyone in that business. I had no idea that could happen......

Thank you Wayne, for supplying the subject of my morning safety meeting. I showed the video to my guys and watched the expressions on their faces as the explosive event took place. This short video showed them more than I could have told them if I talked for an hour. They were ALL unaware, as was I, that this could happen. Again, thank you.

That's crazy! I ran into some Youtube videos of a similar nature that I thought was absolutely questionable. For you Tire and Pyro experts, isn't this just as bad, or about the same thing - mixing fire and tire? I would never try this, but check these out, too and reply with what you think:

In the Youtube search box put in "seal a bead" and a whole bunch more videos will show up. Something just doesn't seem right, but what do I know?

Now we know why not to apply heat to your brakes to thaw them out IF they are frozen. That heat will radiate through the brake and into the rim and BLAMMMM!! At least that's what I've been told anyway!!

Thirty years ago it was a common practice to weld on cracked rims with tires mounted and inflated on off road mining equipment. Who knew?
I've seen fatalagrams over the years where tires exploded at other locations. Today we have very strick policys that discourage us from welding or heating inflated rims..

Here is my story. Many, many, many, many years ago at a truck stop where we fueled our trucks in The morning some mechanic's were changing a tire on a 18 wheeler and for whatever reason they had a torch on it. I did see them doing that as I went in for coffee. It exploded and killed one of the guys. I did not see it but my Dad did. I did hear it and thought a fuel pump had exploded and was heading out when my Dad came in and took me out the rear door as he did not want me to see that. It was a sort of common practice in those days. So were fuel pump explosions and we did see a couple of those.
