slide resevoir on a 3400

our slide resivoir seems to have about two inches of oil in it. How full is it supposed to be?

There should be a marker line on the side. Only fill when the slides are in or you will have a big mess filling it when the slides are out, then moving them in. If no marker line, about an inch from the top of the contanier. Not from the fill cap. If box is square, about an inch down from when it start the form up to the filler neck.

In order to be close to what the owner's manual advises, we had to add about an inch of fluid. We have not noticed any indication of fluid leaks...think it just was not "filled" at the factory. As GregN states, we added fluid when the slides were in the closed position.

Don-- I'm assuming your slides are out when you say you only have about two inches of fluid in the reservoir. If I am incorrect please let us know. If they are out that two inches is about what my reservoir has in it when the slides are fulling extended. If it is when the slides are in, there's a problem. I've marked the levels of the fluid with a permanent marker on the reservoir when the slides are in and also when they are out. This way I know if I need to add any fluid or have a problem. I'm also assuming you do not have any indictation of a leak of any fluid--you didn't mention whether you had any puddles or not. Let us know and maybe we can make other suggestions!

When the slides are retracted, the reservoir should be full to about 1.5 - 2 inches from the top. If you want to keep track of the level mark it with a permanent marker on the reservoir. When you extend the slides, mark that level too. This way you can keep track of the levels and will be able to tell if the system if holding pressure or not.

Thanks for the info. I had not though about the diffenece between having the slides in or out. When I said 2 inches it was with the slides all the way out. I think I'll just buy some slide oil and then will re check when I bring the sildes in.

Note on the slide oil....any kind of transmittion fluid will do....

Don don't put the fluid in until you bring the slides in! If you put it in before you bring them in you'll have one heck of a mess with fluid all over the place! Don't forget to take a permanent marker and put a line on the reservoir where it is now with the slides out then a mark when you bring them back in1 The fluid level should be about an inche to an inche and a half from the top of the reservoir when the slides are in!
