Noisy Furnace Fan

Does anyone have any ideas on how to quiet a noisy furnace fan on a 2002 Montana 3280 RL? The high pitch squeal sounds so loud our neighbors (150 ft away) asked if there was something wrong with our unit. The sound is random, sometimes when first turned on sometimes not but intermittent throughout use. Would love to put away the ear plugs at night. Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like there is a bushing going. You'll either have to replace the bushing or the entire motor.

That happened to me with my SOB. Had to take the furnace out to get the motor out and added a couple drops of light oil. Ran it in the vertical position for a while to get the oil between the bushing and shaft on both ends. That will help for a while but you probably need to replace the motor.

On a previous RV our fan started making the noise you describe. On the road and a replacement motor was not available. We needed the heater so I took out the motor. The motor had a shaft coming out both ends of the motor. There was a cap that covered the ends of the motor where the shaft protrudes. Under that cap was a felt washer that is soaked in oil. I drilled a small hole in the cap and used a small insulin syringe to pump new oil into the felt washer. When done I cleaned the caps with alcohol and sealed the holes with JB Weld. Put it all together. When I got home I ordered a new motor ($90.00) but the old one never made noise again. Sold the motor home and the motor went to the new owner with the sale. Hope this helps,
John

Good job John, I have done a similar fix before.
