Potential Colorado Rally

Curious if anyone would be interested in an August rally in Northern Colorado. We would be willing to host one in Northern Colorado in mid-late August. Right now, I want to gage interest. If there is enough interest we'll get a date set. We would host at Western Ridge in Livermore, Colorado.

How about hosting a Spring Rally there next year?

With only 9 RV sites it would have to be a small rally.

They have additional sites, and there are other campgrounds available. Dhenry, I know this one wouldn't be big enough for Spring rally. There are some other really nice CG's for that in the vicinity. As for hosting a Spring Rally, we hope to be headed to Alaska next year and are going to be busy getting ready for that. I am trying to get retired in the next month and a a half and work is keeping me from it.

RAMES14:

Wanting to meet up with others that they had forged friendships with online, one couple (Searchers) urged two other couples (ToolManRoy and D&M On The Road) to meet up with them at a campground way up in Northern California.

Work, other commitments and distance was going to keep the three MOC couples from being able to attend the very first MOC Rally held in Indiana in 2004.

It turns out that Searchers had spent his youth living on the land of the campground while his parents owned and operated it. So when Searchers said it was a very nice campground, he knew what he was talking about.

They tossed around the possibility of the camping trip and finally decided upon Memorial Day weekend of 2005. That would give the working couples an extra day for travel. One couple lived in Oregon, one couple lived near Mt. Shasta and the other couple lived in the Sacramento Valley.

They decided to call the camping trip a “Campout”.

A few months before the couples were to meet up, they decided to open it up to the MOC forum so they posted a message about it on the forum. They just knew that no one else would sign up, but what the heck. The original three couples were looking forwards to a nice, relaxing time of good food and good friends.

To make a long story short, this was the beginning of the Lake Siskiyou MOC rallies. If my memory serves me correctly, we had about 25 members show up for that first “Campout”.

The rallies continued every year until they outgrew the campground’s facilities and the location was moved to 7 Feathers RV Park in Oregon to accommodate all the MOC members that wanted to attend.

So, my *free & unsolicited* advice to you is, set a date for a camping trip, advertise it here on the MOC, and they will come. You don't need to worry about organizing anything other than the date & location for this first "Campout".

At the very least, you’ll have a nice, relaxing trip.

Margee, I must say that the Lake Siskiyou rally was our first of many and we hope to go to many more rallys. We have met a lot of very nice people and made a lot of very good friends.

Doug/Sharon:

Those Lake Siskiyou rallies WERE fun, weren't they?

I researched and found some posts from those early rallies that still remain in the search archives here at the MOC and it was quite a "memory lane" trip reading them.

I'm happy to have been a part of that.

Go for it Rames14, just pick a date and location for a Colorado "Campout". It could be the start of something big.

Will do, as soon as we get thru our move and "retirement" trip home. I will be up there for Easter and will see when a good time would be for the campground. Any recommended days/length?

Lydia: See you there this Memorial Day weekend!

rames14: I'd go for a weekend and if you can incorporate a holiday weekend that helps the folks who are still working to have an extra day. Post the campground info/rates/what campsite you have. Other than that, just figure out a date, post it along with the days that you'll be there. Ask people to post if they are planning on meeting you there.

Maybe have a get-together dinner where people bring their plates already loaded with their own food at a certain time to someone's campsite and everyone sit around and eat together.

Ask for people to bring firewood and then have a campfire together each night. Those are always fun and an easy way to get to know anyone.

I think the key is to keep it simple & easy and just see what happens.
