Merv, I was told to leave the gear up and hook to truck. Possibly tweak the gear with an uneven lift on one side of the trailer...

I agree and claim you leave the trailer hooked up to the truck. Reason as stated the front landing legs are made to handle side stress when the trailer is jacked up about 10 to 12 inches. (jacking on frame)
There is discussion on where to jack the trailer. I follow the directions and jack on the frame not the axle. Be safe and use jack stands again on the frame. My opinion.
Good luck.

I would do exactly as H. John says. Hitch to RV, use jack stands (and blocks if necessary) on the frame. Like exav8tr alludes, the TV provides better support side to side with its rear axle at the front of the rig than depending on the landing gear that risks taking on too much weight on either side as the RV is jacked up. You definitely want the majority of the weight to be supported at the wheels via the jackstands and not at the front of the rig's pin or landing gear.

I would only add that you might need some extra blocks and 6-12 ton bottle jacks to get the frame raised to put the jackstands under there. Don't forget to loosen the wheel lug nuts before raising.
