Front Jacks

We were parked at the Air Force Academy last weekend and tried to lower the front jacks to unhook. Had a loud strange noise in the front compartment. I also noticed that the door side gear was not moving. Upon inspection I found that the bolt on the gear was missing. Having a service company come in it was discovered that the bold had sheared. The service company replaced the bolt with a grade 5. Now it works great.
To access this side of the shaft one must crawl through the battery compartment and lay accross the generator compartment.Has anyone installed an access panel in the storage compartmet to get to this shaft? I know that the access panel must not penetrate the generator compartment due to fumes.
