W.W.II VET

My Father Bill Helmick, a W.W.II Navy Veteran is having his 87th Birthday in two weeks.During the war he spent almost four years in the South Pacific on a small wooden ship that the US Navy leased from New Zealand. His home station was in New Zealand, but he saw very little of it. They went from Island To Island delivering medical supplies, ammunition and anything else that was needed. Sometimes not getting off the ship for six months at a time.
After the war he never really wanted to talk much about it and never could watch a war movie. I don`t think I really ever thanked him for those years or realized what they were really like.
I would like to thank him now and wish him a Happy 87th Birthday.
If anyone would care to join me I will print this out and give it to him.
Thank You
Ron Helmick

Happy birthday, Mr. Helmick.
As Tom Brokaw described it, you are part of "The Greatest Generation".
There is no simple thank you adequate to show the appreciation I feel for all who have served. But thank you anyway.
And think about sharing your service experiences with your family while you still can. They would love to hear all about it.

For Bill Helmick,

Happy Birthday Bill on your 87th. I hope I too have an enduring life.
My Dad just turned 89 on April 8th and he too was in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Shoveler, AM-382, an ocean-going minesweeper during WWII in the Pacific. He was a Fire Control Technician 3rd Class. Lost his hearing and wounded but still very much my Dad in charge!

You and My Dad and so many others should be proud to have served our country during such a grave time. Reflect well on your service Mr. Helmick as so many others think of you on your special birthday. God Bless.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mr. Hemlick!! My Dad was in the Second Armored Division in Europe and Africa. I lost him 13 years ago and still miss him. He rarely spoke of his service but was extremely proud to serve. This country is blessed to have had your generation do so much for us. Have a wonderful day, Sir.

Happy Birthday Bill! Hope you have a great day and many more! Thank you for serving our country and putting your life on the line for all those back here in the US during WW II! My Dad and Mom were both in the Army Air Corp during that time and that's where they met! Thank you again and Happy Birthday!!

Happy Birthday Bill. My dad was in the Army Air Corp. during WWII. He was a drill instructor. I did my stint in the Navy during Vietnam, on an AE, which is an ammunition ship. Your dad will know what that is. I was an Engineman, auxillary division. Thank him for his service, and remember to thank ALL the vets for their service too!

Happy Birthday Bill!! Thank you for our freedom. My father served in Africa and Italy during the war. I was just a baby when he left. I called him "Captain Daddy" when I showed people his picture. He retired as a Lt. Col. He, you and all the others sacrified a great deal so that we can continue to live in freedom.
Ed's Dad served in the So. Pacific also.
Again, thanks and have a great birthday!

Happy Birthday Bill. Paul's Dad was in the Army Aircorp at the end of the war. Our Son was in the Army in Iraq. Share your stories with your family as they should be passed on--what you tell is more meaningful than what some news reporter has written. thanks for serving our country

A very Happy Birthday Mr. Hemlick.
Thank you for your service to our country.

My father, rest is soul, was Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. Just last night my son and I were talking about his service and how little we know about it. I'm thinking of petitioning the Department of Defense for his records. Just so we know where he served while on ship.

You may have talked to other veterans of your era about your service (and escapades - the fun ones), as I know that veterans can talk to other veterans because they understand and have been there. Do please consider talking to you son and family so that history, traditions, honor, and duty to country can be preserved. We only know what newscasters have told us and it is so enlightening to the true story from someone who was involved.

Again, happy birthday, and thank you so much for your service.

Semper Fi!
