Wheel dirt on rugs inside camper

When I extend the slideouts on my (2006 3475) Monty I have some road dirt on the rugs above where the tires are?
Is this a common problem and what should I do to to get a sufficient seal?
New to 5th wheeling-----please help

We have the same issue on our 06 3000rk. The dealer could not resolve this issue despite numerous adjustments to the slides. My efforts to insure the seals are adjusted properly and lubricated have proved fruitless. I am interested in what others have to say.

Hope some one has a answer to this as ours dose this. It quit after adjusting the slides but DW says we are still getting some dirt in yet. You know they are always right. Next year when we get to the rally we will stop at the place that installs new carpeting and have new installed. This just happens to the long slide.

When I was roaming around looking at other units, I noticed one that had about a 4 or 5 inch gray plastic piece about 3 or 4 feet long. When I asked the salesman what that was for he said it goes under the runner when pulling the slide in. This was a stiff piece of plastic. I'm not sure if you could adapt something for your units of a similar scheme.

We have a 3000RK, and have a black dust, for lack of another term, creeping in next to the carpet next to the walls, 1/4 to a 1/2 inch, on the opposite side from the slide. It is also around the seems at the step. Notice it after the first long trip last year. I got under the trailer and tried to seal the area where the wall meets the floor. It looked to me to be break dust, maybe because it appeared around the wheel well.
Love to here from any of you if you had the problem and how you fixed it or prevented it.

ctrocks, this is how I stopped the water intrusion into my 3000rk, It's roofing "valley gutter material" that I cut down and bent to cover the seal area above the tires. I slid it between the supports and also rivited it.
I need to say that this is the first time that I have tried to post pics, so I don't know if it'll fizzle,or blow up. http://tinypic.com/3ia041e0

I have the same situation on our 08 Mountaineer. Seems to happen mostly when going over dirty gravel roads. If I'm lucky & stay on cement or asphalt roads, there is very little amount of dirt.

While working in a new car dealership in my early years, we had this problem with car trunks getting dirt in them. As we travel down the road, a low pressure is grated inside the trailer. Thus this will bring in dust through the smallest opening.

Xthread has a good repair for this. Also make sure there is no small openings especially where seals meet in the corners.

We have it (gray dust) on the carpet at the two rear slides. It really shows on this lighter carpet. If we had it on our 2003 I never noticed it.

I never pursued a fix. I don't get any water, so I left it alone.

My problem has been water coming in when I drive in the rain. The dealer has been toying with it since day 1. The kitchen slide now seems ok but just last week the dealer was trying to stop the leak on the living room slide. They say it is a hit and miss situation and I'm not sure what they do to try to correct the situation.

Jim,

Montana Sky was having a similar problem (water). Not sure if he is still around but you might PM him to see if he ever got it fixed. It was a traveling problem rather than parked problem.

I have also seen the self adhesive foam insulating tape placed on the tube support for the slide. That would put more pressure on the rubber seal. I think the tube is a 2"x2". The tape was about 1" thick as I recall. rlwhit, was that yours?? bill

On our prior Montana when we had this problem they found a horizontal seal was missing. It appeared as if it had never been there. They installed a seal and the problem was solved. I don't know if this is the case on yours but if a seal was never installed then there's no sign of it having once been there and thus is not real apparent that there should be a seal there. Gee, I am not sure I understand what I just wrote. I hope it makes some sense to you.

It must take a long time for dirt to build up under a slide.

I hope no one is traveling down the highway with their slides out!!!

DW did see that one day on a back road here. She doesn't know how far they got.

We have black dust right next to the fire extinguisher on our 3400. We also have a black mark on the kitchen slide near the fridge. Don't have problems with any other places. Sure looks ugly with the black junk as you walk in the door.

Has anyone cleaned their carpet, and if so what did you use.

We cleaned the carpet with one of those rental machines from the grocery store. Seemed to work OK. As a partimer, it takes a couple of days campground fees to dry it out with the slides open. Don't want to think of how black the carpets would be if put away wet
