After an open sewer compartment door resulted in $1,100 worth of damage to our truck (I had stopped along the freeway in TX with the intention of closing the sewer door. The wind along with a passing semi ripped the truck door from my grasp and overextended it.) I decided never again. I bought a roll of white duct tape until I could come up with a more permanent solution. A short strip over the latch area ensures the door doesn't come open regardless of the wind. Even if you hang the door upside down, that flimsy latch can come unhooked and the wind might catch the door just right. The duct tape is insurance and it is virtually unnoticeable. One of these days I might turn the compartment over and buy a better latch but I will still use the white duct tape just to be sure.

Wow, Butch, $1100 damage to the truck? Was that the truck door that got ripped out of your grasp or the sewer compartment door?

I guess I wasn't real clear Steve (I have since updated my post). It was the truck door that was damaged when the wind (and a passing semi) opened it further that it was designed.

Ouch. That could ruin a trip! Thanks for the explanation. I assumed that but wasn't sure.
