Hello AS I was setting up a young man came over. He was interested in my Diesel. He said he is looking at a Ford 250 2004 King Ranch and asked if I knew if they were a good investment. Since I own a Dodge I told him I would ask some that may own or have owneed them. So if you could let me know your opinions on this I would be gratefull. Thanks have a great day.

Randye, I think you need only look at the other posts in this section about the Fords, especially that year group. I almost bought one of the 450's a few years ago but got scared off by this and other forums on the big Fords. I ended up with a couple of Chevy's, one was a 2500 and traded up in '08 for a 3500 dually. Nary a problem with the 3500. 2500 was a little light for the heavy 3400.....I guess it would depend what he plans on doing with it. Hopefully a Ford owner will be along shortly....

Exav8tr I think he may want to pull his, park model it looks to be 35' +-. He is a serviceman for a hivac co. May be pulling out soon, said he got a settlement and has cash to buy. I will question him futher and if thats what he wants to do, I will advise him to get the 3500 in whatever truck he decides on. I know that my 07 Dodge 3500 has worked out perfect for pulling my 37' 3485SA. thanks for the response, how is the weather in Casa Grande, we stayed their for one month in March 2010. It was warming up even that month. It's been raining here in Washington state for a week today is partly cloudy and suppose to get to 74 Deg. They haven't had much of a summmer yet.

I had a 2003 F250. The last of the 7.3's. The next gen engine had some issues. The rest of my truck... I had more problems than most Ford owners do. Lots of them.

randye, has been in the 100's for quite some time, had a 113 degree day in June. BUT IT'S A DRY HEAT!!!! This really does make a difference. Of course we are in a village home here that we bought, Montana is up for sale....Strictly my opinion, but I would advise against a FORD of that year, or any other year for that matter. Many reports of problems on this forum and most are Ford, just saying....Please don't shoot me folks, but read the posts......

I've been happy with my 2006 Ford F250/350 - hack, choke, gag, cough, cough, ahem, achoo... Wow, what was that about? It means I have a 2006 Ford truck now, and I am not having any problems with it. But besides sticking to the "heavy service schedule", I baby it when I drive and tow. I don't drive like a turtle but I don't pass much on uphills but semis and bigger rigs.

This doesn't mean you won't have as good or better success but I do like my truck a lot. I have done a lot to make it my own. I think having a good warranty helps and while I haven't done any mechanical warranty work (replaced a seat where the stitching came apart and got a new aluminum wheel for one that cracked). Other than that so far, so good.

I had an '04 F250 6.0. Traded it for an '07 F350 6.0. Been very happy with both.
'04 had an EGR valve go bad at about 35,000 miles. Replaced under warranty and no other problems.
Traded up to an '07 F350 6.0 to tow the 5er. Had a cam sensor go bad at about 53,000 miles replaced under warranty. No other problems with it.
But I would be a little leary of the '04, especially if it was an early build '04. Being a long time Ford owner, I have read many many posts about the 6.0 problems. And the best I can determine is that the '03 and early build '04 models had the most problems. After that, they seem to have corrected them for the most part. Not to say they don't happen.

Ford has gone from a 7.3 to a 6.0 to a 6.4 to a 6.7 all in a decade or so. That's all I'd need to know.

I'd go with a Cummins or a Duramax.

I have had a 2000 7.3 F250 SRW, 2006 6.0 F350 SRW, and now a 2011 6.7 F350 DRW. Had no issues with the 7.3, waited until 2006 to get the 6.0 due to all the issues had with the early 6.0. I had some issues that cost me $$ with the 6.0, but it never left me on the side of the road and towed the Montana extremely well. And we love the 6.7. But if it was me giving advice I would steer clear of the early 04-late 05 6.0 PSD.

Think the original post asks about a specific year/type of truck...my two cents is that I have NEVER had good luck with a used vehicle of any kind. If it was running great why would the owner sell/trade it? On the other hand, I have known people to do very well with used vehicles. Has to be a personal choice. Another comment, when a relatively small percentage (total numbers) of owners of a particular vehicle has problems with that vehicle, does that make the vehicle problematic??? If that was so, I would have to conclude by the articles/letters to the ED in the Good Sam and Trailer Life magazines that Chevy trucks all have overheating problems! Personally, I like each of the American made heavy duty trucks...just happen to the like Ford most.

My bottom line is all Big 3 have good diesel products NOW!!! All had past problems and will have some minor glitches every now and then. Our GM MOC friends seem to avoid the past Duramax issues when speaking of the Ford 6.0 or why Dodge went to Cummins. I was shopping at all three but went with Ford because of the better creature comforts. Personal choice, period.

I feel fortunate, I have had two Chevy diesels in the last 4 years and no engine problems whatsoever. My '05 had an AC problem until we had the module replaced and the '08 had a windshield fluid heater problem which was removed and GM gave me a check for $100.00. Felt pretty lucky then. My post above was not meant to be argumentative with anyone. I was only stating what I have read on this forum about the Fords. I do not subscribe to any other forums, perhaps I should. I believe the OP question was about the Ford specifically.

Got to agree with Michael! Our 08 F350 has really not been much trouble, although I am only just now past the 36K mark. And yes, I did end up buying the extended warranty just in case. But so far the 6.4 has not had any major problems.
