Front Montana Decal Frayed Around Edges

Took our 2010 3150RL for a 2 week trip and when we got home the front cap was plastered with bugs. The bugs came off easily with generic dryer sheets. I washed the front with Simple Green and a wash sponge and noticed bits and pieces of decals in the water. Upon a closer examination I noticed that the Montana decal on the cap is frayed slightly around the entire decal. I was going to take a hobby knife blade and trim off the frayed edges. But now I'm wondering if the entire decal will start to peel. I understand the decals are under warranty for a year, and I was going to call Keystone, but I'm wondering if others have experienced something similar when their Monty was new.

too bad to hear about your decals comming on a roll so soon, try a call to the decal manufacture in OEM on the home page.
so welcome to the group of stick and peel.

Do a search on Burlington Graphics on this forum to get the phone number and contact for the replacement graphics. Burlington will probably handle this directly--you can also check their website. I have already replaced mine but it took 3 years to wear off but under warranty by Burlington.

Ours is doing the same thing. it is a 2005 model and first they looked like they were shrinking and now they are curling and peeling. I too, first noticed this about year two,but did not persue any recourse. Now I am afraid it is to late for us. Contact the maker and see what help they will give you.

dpam,
Give Keystone customer service a call at (866) 425-4369. I believe the new graphics are warranted for 3 years. I seem to remember the Regional Keystone rep saying that at the rally at 7 Feathers last year.

We have new ones for our 2007, if your new 2010 are coming off I don't no if I want to go to the trouble of putting them on.
Maybe we should just leave them off.

Thank you for all the feedback/input. I was planning on calling Keystone, and it appears other owners also had/have problems. I'm a bit surprised that if decals/graphics are a weak spot in the Montana product why Keystone hasn't taken steps to prevent these type of occurances.

Thanks again for your input. I'll provide an update after I speak with Keystone on Monday.

Our 09 3400RL had spider web cracks on the graphics and the front started to peel immediately after we purchased the unit new. The Dealer replaced the majority of the deacals. Dealer said that they are replacing the majority graphics on the Keystone products. Quality of decals are very poor in this case as I compare to the 3M graphics we use on restoration projects and some of these are 15 years old and still look like new with no fading!!

I've mentioned this before but it must be the newer units that are having the majority of the graphics peeling problems. Our rig is over 10 years old and hasn't peeled--faded a bit, but I fade to when I've been in the CA sun year after year after year.

We have had our rig for almost 5 years now and the graphics started peeling at about 4 years. We are on the road now but I am planning on contacting Burlington when we get home as they are getting worse.

We have the identical problem on our late-year 2007 model. About two months ago, I noticed that same type of fraying on the top of the front graphics. I contacted Burlington but still haven't received an answer. (Actually, I forgot I'd contacted them, so I need to do a follow-up immediately.) Our side graphics, the ones that say Montana, developed 1/8" to 1/4" spider cracks last year; Burlington immediately sent replacements when contacted.

I've seen many older Montanas with the original graphics that are still in great shape. I wonder what's happened to make the newer-model graphics less durable?

At the rally in 7 Feathers last year, I seem to remember Charles Wade from Keystone saying the graphics for the 2010 "Hickory Edition" were of a different and more durable design hence the 3 year warranty. I also think he said they were not made by Burlington graphics but I can't be positive on that.

The word Montana on our nose curled & peeled about a year & 1/2 old. This last winter in the desert I took a putty knife to it & removed it. I'm not even thinking about repacing it as I've talked to many Taners who have replaced them & the new set is peeling. Now the mountain is startin to peel I guess I will have a completely naked nose after I scrape it off. The only thing is when I flash my lights at other Monty's they won't know I'm one of em. Dave

I would use a heat gun to remove the decals or even a hair dryer. Not scrape.

They came off really easy with the putty knife. I was in the desert with the sun shing right on it & didn't need a heat gun. I would get about a quarter inch with each stroke upwards. I did a third of it 3 days in a row & cleaned the glue residue with Acyrsol. Not a scratch on it.

In my original post I stated that I'd provide an update after I receive a response from Keystone. I reported a few flaws/defects on our 2010 3150RL to Keystone, so I'm attaching part of the Keystone e-mail reply that deals with the decal issue. " Thank you for contacting Keystone RV, the decal are cover for one year with Keystone , and then after that is cover thru our vendor".

I have 2008 3605RL and the front decal is fraying from the top. I cover the unit from November thru April this keeps the snow and rain from beating on it and it still frayed. I emailed Keystone and yes they said one year warrenty on the decal (and their trailers). You would think that Keystone would want their name Montana to stand out, because that's the first thing you look at when walking around the rv park. I e-mailed Burlington Graphics and told them about my problem, they never contacted me, but the other day UPS delivered a box and it was from Burlington Graphics and my new front decal was inside it.
I think Keystome should have took care of this for me, it would have made them look like the good guys, and we could have bragged how they went up and beyond the call!!

My front cap graphics started to peel end of last year. This year you can really see it more. Contacted Burlington Graphics for replacements. The front cap name and mountians are $95 plus shipping, with 6-8 weeks delivery time. On the Burlington site there is an area to choose the graphics for your year model.

It's July 3rd, and I've now contacted Burlington Graphics 3 times since late spring about the peeling and cracking graphics on the nose of our late-year 2007 model 3585 rig. Two months ago, only the front "Montana" was peeling; now I'd estimate that 95% of the graphics on all sides are peeling and cracking. To date, I've had no response from Burlington.

Should I just cross my fingers and hope that like tkditta, I soon receive--surprise--a box in the mail with replacement graphics? Or, do I need to step up my request to Burlington for help? I've contacted Kristen twice and Burlington's general customer service help once so far.

Does not make much sense to take off the bad ones ,and replace them with more bad ones.It is not all that fun heat gun scraper whatever to be standing on a ladder to remove them. I too have all the graphics off of the nose, and new ones sitting in the garage, where I am afraid they are going to stay.

Talked to a guy that did some paint pin stripping, etc on my boats a few years back, he said he could do some airbrushing on the cap, and would not be too expensive. A lady that I work with has some experience with graphic art that is drawing me up something that will go with the rest of the fifth wheel. Not sure if I will paint Montana back on it, but will have some sort of mountain scene. The cap does not look to bad bare, but it really does look better with something on it.
