Prevent Florida Mold

We decided to store our Montana in Florida over the summer. We took all the precautions suggested by a number of folks who do this: The unit was thoroughly cleaned (inside and out), fridge dry, checked everything for any signs of leaks. We used Damp Rid( 3 pails). We covered windows with a fabric sun shade which allowed filtered light in. We left no ceiling vents open. Upon return we still had mildew/mold on just about every window and screen. Also on some cabinet doors. I know it was a very humid ,wet summer here. Fortunately it was easily cleaned but just curious if there is anything else we should be doing? Appreciate any other storage solutions. Thanks.

Always use australian tea tree gel to kill mold and mildew spores when in florida and other places where humidity is high. Several brands now days. Look on amazon for it. John

Summer was wetter than normal. Most of the snowbirds in the park who summer store do all the things you did, but they also run a outdoor extension cord from the pedestal bypassing the converter, and run one or two fans all the time for air circulation. Couple of them do that but use solar panel for power. Damp rid is not popular if left over the summer because you end of with pails of water so they use charcoal instead.

Thanks for the replies. We wondered about a mold guard of some kind. Also were told some folks use large containers of cat litter in addition to damp rid to offset that moisture. Still looking into that.

Come to Arizona. Nice in the winter hot and dry in the summer.

We leave our AC running at about 78. Seems to work best.

Hi

Same as washley1 we run the ac’s at about the same temperature when the unit is not occupied. However we do use ours at least once a month year around.

Appreciate the ideas but where we stay power, when is storage is not an option. If it was I'd just use a dehumidifier and drain it to the shower stall.

Mold may not end up being your only issue if you store all summer in Florida in outside uncovered storage when not hooked up. Our friends have a 2014 SOB fiver and even though they use it some in the summer it still sits down here about half the summer. This year the furniture (leather, pleather, or whatever it is) is drying out and flaking away. Plus the skylight bubble over their shower just crumbled away like it was 30 years old.

We have found we need to drain the buckets and put new damp rid in the buckets once per month.

I keep mine in the open barn in our backyard. I have tried everthing to keep it dry inside. I was at lowes last week and they had 2 haier dehumidifiers brand new on clearance the were 230. originaly I scored both of them for 80. a piece. They are 70 pint capacity or hook em up to a hose and let them drain in the sink. I put 1 in the montana and in less than 24 hours the tank was full, I am amazed at how much moisture it pulls out of the air.
