Go by your sticker, which is based on the truck being weighed when leaving the factory. After you subtract the weight of people, animals and stuff - that leaves the pin wt of the trailer. If your trailer pin wt is under, then you are legal, if over, then you are illegal.

What is the payload on your door sticker? From that subtract your wt, passenger wt, stuff wt, hitch wt etc. That is your actually payload and will determine what you can legally tow. Can you tow 29000 lbs - yep - legally - nope...Even the 13500 is most doubtful - sorry for the bad news ...

Most likely true - tho read about a guy that was pulled over in Pa and weighed, so I guess it can happen. For me, it was realizing that I was way, way over weight and illegal. That bothered me, so, I fixed the problem and got a TV to match the trailer. As someone earlier mentioned, very wise advice. Most get a 3/4 ton and then 'justify'
why it is ok to pull a big trailer.

If this is a 3/4 ton diesel, then it implies its weight is less than 7000 lbs. Like I said earlier, really light. What configuration is it? Double cabs and regular cabs are much lighter.

We have been on the road long timers since 2006. We note that folks full time in all brands all price ranges. We opted for the largest 5th wheel we could afford in 2006 which was a Montana 3400. We do have a one ton dually not because we wanted one but the Carry capacity (pin weight) said we needed one...Your choice.

Although Keystone customer did not always do what I wanted them to do we have no serious complaints.
We have not had a roof problem on either of our Montana's.The carpet in our 06 3400 sold in 2012 for this 13 3402 was in excellent condition the buyer thought we had replaced it.We had no problems with our slides 2006
or 2013. We replaced our entire suspension on both Montana's with the Mor Ryde IS as we considered the suspension system the weakest part of both Montanans

Customer service as I stated did not always do as I wanted them to do but we always were treated with respect and had excellent service. They never avoided a warranty issue; We are long timers and have put well over 100K miles on these Montana's since 2006 and live in them for at least 9 months of the year

On the other hand some owners have had nothing but trouble.It is the luck of the draw.

Any chance you have a link to this story you read? I`m NOT doubting you by any means, but I CANNOT find any credible articles of this occurring,other than word of mouth.

It would make some of these posters "believers",if they see it in a credibly linked article.

I don't know of any articles written of people being ticketed for being overweight. Rigs have been red tagged in central coast CA for the same issue. Some folks just won't care until the article (ticket) has their name on it. Oh well.

We have a guy that pulled into the campground the other day with a SOB that weighs GVWR 18665 lb. and he is towing (behind the 5'er) a trailer loaded with a Polaris, two kayaks, huge toolbox & misc items. His TV is a Chevy High Country Silverado. I don't want to be any where around him when he is driving down the road.

I’m still here. Lots of good info posted so far. I pretty much know what my trucks weight limitations are now. Seems my options are either a smaller RV or buy a dually. My 2500hd diesel has been very well maintained and hate to part with it especially when looking at prices of 3500’s. I was mainly interested in the quality of the Keystone RV’s for fulltiming. Have heard a lot of good things about the older models but not so much about the newer ones since Thor became involved with production. Thanks for everyone’s feedback.

Get what you want. Look at Montanas as well as other brands. Crossroads has a Cameo 3201RL that is a lot like the Montana 3120RL.

There are a number of 35 footers that you should be looking at. I'd stay away from the 40 footers.
If you are looking at Montana as being advertised as a 'full timing' RV, wrong. Most people don't realize that montanas are not rated for full timing. Even though there is advertisement on their booklets mention full timing. There is an *. read the small print.

Your truck is fine.
