Insurance Woes
Just got my insurance bill for the Monty. $195.50 yr.
Just wondering what others are paying, and if it's a lot less, who do you have for a company?
We usually wait till the end of May to renew so the rate is pro-rated down to $113
Thanks

Thats not to bad, you might be in a area that may have higher insurance rates. I pay $170.00 a year for my Montana.

I changed cos because I asked for full coverage , guaranteed replacement coverage . A friend and fellow RV owner told me that I'd better check on the coverage of add one like awnings antennas and AC. Sure enough they were not covered. Agent assured me they were. Isaid I want a letter from you saying so. He said to pick it up next day. When I stopped in he said he was sorry bit he had learned I was right and that the added coverage would almost double my premium. That's when I moved to USAA. Careful, coverages are certainly different, not only co to co, but also state to state.

X2 what Larry has said. I studied the issue for three straight months and found that a lot of times the agents I talked to didn't know what the coverage really was. Even full coverage isn't always full coverage and some, like Progressive (agent told me on the phone), will cover your rig for the purchase price for the first 5 years and then go back down to book value (read not very much). Since we full time I went with Blue Sky since they have replacement coverage with a similar new model. It isn't cheap however, but neither is having your home totaled and them giving you half the cost of a new one.

We have Progressive for the rig, jet-ski and boat. Rig as-mentioned in previous post is full replacement with same model for current year of loss, disappearing deductible (disappeared as we have had same insurance on both rigs). Premium is also based on the value of the rig, our rig is a little over $500 a year. For $113 a year, I think I would be looking hard at the policy terms, if that covers everything, then you have a bargain and definitely don't need to be shopping. Boat and Jet-ski combined are more than the rig, yet half of the value, but boats have to have environmental coverage in case of sinkage which drives up cost substantially.

I pay over $600 a year for full replacement insurance and will get up 10 yrs. after that it gets pro rated. they just payed about $3800 to fix the big slide floor. It was a full floor replacement so it is worth it.

Boy,,do I feel like an idiot I just checked my insurance bill, and it's $277 a year. It was actually $195 for my registration renewal for a year and that was actually what I was inquiring about. Sorry for the error guys. My car is only $65 for two years and the Monty is $195 for only a year. Not happy with New York State.
Again, sorry for the error.

My excise tax to register the Monty in Maine for one year was $2000. It goes down each year before it bottoms out in five years.
That really hurts and makes my blood boil.

When we bought our Montana in 2004 we paid Michigan $300 for a permanent plate, what a bargain that is turning out to be.

It is a bargain - so long as you keep the trailer. Trade in the trailer and the plate becomes void.

I feel your pain, we too live in Maine and paid $2400.00 in excise tax. I think it is a rip off. When it bottoms out it we will still be paying around $400.00 for as long as we own it. Jim still gets so worked up about it, that when it's time to register, I do it as quietly as I can.....

Insurance, or vehicle registration, continues to go up and up...for us, at any rate. When I last called my insurer, told that since there have been a lot of high cost insurance payouts in my area recently, that rates for policy holders in the area are going up. I responded that I have had policies with them for years without any payouts...didn't impress them, my rates went up.

We pay a lot more than that but we have full replacement coverage, fulltimers coverage, additional riders for various items we have with us including electronics, jewelry, etc.
One thing to check is whether your policy is a true RV policy or is it a rider on your truck policy. If the latter, then you may not be covered when not towing. In that case, your regular homeowners **should** cover contents and any damage while parked and not attached to the truck. And that would explain the cheaper cost. If you have true rv insurance then you have a heckuva price.

Like Steve, mine is much more than that per year as I too have full timers coverage, storage coverage, personal effects coverage, roadside service, along with additional coverages, plus I also went with an agreed value on the coach rather than actual cash value at time of loss. Do your research and find a policy that best fits your needs. Also, be sure to check your comp/collision maximums, medical payout, as well as uninsured/under-insured coverages. All to often I hear/find folks that are not covered as well as they thought during a time of loss on their rig and are left paying out on loans and/or costs involved with the accident.
