In April we stayed at and highly recommend Stone Mountain Campground http://www.stonemountainpark.com/new...mping_camp.asp which is within Stone Mountain Park. You cannot beat this park for location to the mountain and any of the attractions.
The campground is great but a number of the sites leave a lot to be desired. The following link is to a page of photos of our trip to Stone Mtn. Scroll to the bottom of the page for pics of our site. http://fulltimingit.irv2.com/picsstnmtn.html You will notice that our site was kind of tight with no room for the awning and little room for sitting around the rig. You had to be careful as the site had quite a drop off on 3 sides. But it was overlooking the lake with Stone Mountain in the background.
We will return to Stone Mountain in the future and YES we will stay at Stone Mountain Campground but will be a little choosier in our choice of a camp site. Of the 441 sites many were better than the one we were in.

That is a beautiful place but I don't think I could have stayed in that campsite. Oh my goodness it is quite a severe drop on 3 sides and I would be afraid to end up in the water! YIKES! Beautiful pictures.

Bob & Gay,
We have also stayed at the Stone MOuntain Park Campground (within the park). Go to their website and choose the site location you want. As Glenn says some of the sites can be quite an adventure, but all are adequate. The first time we went to this park we requested a site on the lake. Now when making reservations we request something in a more level area. The lake sites are a little more challenging than some of the other sites, but the views are great. As a matter of fact we have reservations to stay there from September 7-14 (to take advantage of the Yellow Daisy Festival). We requested and are staying in site #303. If you go to the website Glenn mentioned you can actually look at a map of the sites before choosing. Let us know if you will be in the area in September.

Our vote also goes to Stone Mountain State Park. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accomadating. As another poster has already mentioned, alot of the sites are very unlevel. Just prepare by packing alot of lumber!

Just a quick note here...Stone Mountain is not a State Park but privately owned and is run by Silver Dollar City, Inc. and Silver Dollar City Stone Mountain Park, Inc. Since this company took over management (I believe it was five or six years ago) they have invested a great deal of money in new attractions and improvements of existing facilities. Just did not want anyone to think the campling fees here were comparabvle to the Georgia State Park camping fees.

Speakiing of water...watch the water pressure there. There is a big sign in the registration office which tells you that the water presures are 100-130(??)psi. Great for washing cars, but he__ on plumbing if you don't have/use a pressure regulator.
Great "Sound and Light" show, nice golf course, dining room nearby.
Pick your site carefully...look the available ones over before making a choice..
