New Montana High Country Punchlist

Just pulled trigger on a new 2019 HC380TH! I love the floorplan and the quality reviews the rig has received...

I crawled on the roof, I noticed hollow spots around the corners where it feels like there is nothing under the top membrane seal. Probably 1/2 inch play at spots.

Is this a structural issue that I need to have the dealer repair, or is this something that is expected?

Rig is still at dealer as I pick it up this weekend.

Is there anything else I need dealer to repair, replace, or check out before I pull it off the lot?

Appreciate any tips or comments! I'm happy to join the family.

Billy

When we got our trailer I researched many predelivery inspection forms that people posted on the internet and combined them into my own list. Best advice is to go through the rig as thoroughly as possible. The dealer has a lot more incentive to make immediate repairs if they know a sale is on the line, than they do after paperwork is signed. You will have things come up, be prepared for it. Don’t let the emotion of having a new rig cause you to settle for less than you expect. Maybe compare those gaps in roof to other units, that would indicate whether this condition is normal or not. Congratulations on the new rig, and welcome to the forum. I am fairly new to this forum as well and it has helped me immensely. You might wanna pay attention to any cable slide gearboxes.Lots of people experience leaks (I have one) and they ruin the roofs of the slide outs. I would have the drip pans installed prior to delivery. If you have cable slides.

Thanks Dhardy!

Great idea. I'll climb on some others on the lot.

Funny thing is I saw that issue on forums and utube regarding the slide outs.

I brought it up to sales guy and he said, "I've never heard of that, and I've been selling these for years".

Well, thanks to folks like you, I have heard of it and am making them install those ellusive drip pans before pick up. Lol.

Thanks for your comment.

That’s exactly what my dealer said. Based on what I’ve seen on this site there are fewer people that don’t experience this problem, than do. Good luck.

My dealer said the same thing but when I pointed out in the parts and sales room that the drip pans are right there in plain view the facial expression said it all.
Best thing is to go through it all and operate everything. The bed seems to be somewhat of an issue for some so raise and lower it a few times. I would even hook up and then drop/level at least once there. Self leveling for some has been an issue too.

Almost forgot, be sure to check out the "How about a 380TH/381TH thread?" in the General Discussions about our Montanas.

I will definitely hook up and level, operate all slides and bring a magnifying glass before I hand over the check!

Thanks for the comments, and if I have anything to report I will share after my first weekend "shake down" camp out.

Welcome to the forum!

Ask if you can stay in the rig on their lot for 1 night to test everything. Don't get rushed on your inspection and don't get rushed to sign or pay. Take good notes - check everything yourself vice taking their word - this also helps you learn the systems. Run the water with and without internal pump, run the A/C, the heater, the hot water heater, the fridge on gas and electric, all the slides, the level up, your TVs, stove, oven, microwave, inside and outside lights and check fit of windows and doors. If you have a RV smart friend, bring them along and take good notes.

My advice would be like a few others : take your time, look at everything even if it's 100 degrees outside, make sure the furnace runs / opposite for the a/c units
Roll out the awnings Inspect thoroughly look for pinholes, etc
Run water, check dump valves, look over every piece of trim and see if flat and fastened..

Take time

I bought a HC365BH in Dec moved in in Feb and now and then I find a leak under the sink. I had the worst walk through ever. can't figure out why it leaks every now and then. I have a water pressure regulator on the hose. this morning I think I got it figured out down to some kind of bypass valve. Of course there are no manuals covering these lines..
