DS and ODS switch definition

Okay what exactly do DS and ODS stand for?

I assumed DS was Drivers Side and ODS was Off Drivers Side (or Opposite). If that's even close mine are miss wired and the wrong rocker controls the wrong lights. My ODS switch controls the drivers side light and DS controls the passenger side, steps and hitch lights. So I guess I'll now simply think of them as Door Side and Off Door Side. Or, maybe i've been wrong the whole time and they have been named in relation to the Door.

Whatever, the other thread on them being stuck on just made me think of that. Took me a month to get used to the wrong rocker controlling the wrong lights according to my definition of the abbreviation.

DS is door side and ODS is opposite door side. There is no driver in the trailer, so I guess this is a more accurate way to label the lights.

Hey, what about the models with a door on both sides? Does ODS become Other Door Side?

Hi

The ASE training defines the left and right side as driver’s side and passenger’s side even for trailers they are still pulled by a motor vehicle.

I always assumed that DS was dining room and ODS was opposite dining room.

This works on our floor plan.

The DS (dining room slide) and ODS (opposite dining room slide) has worked for us for many years and models.

The only problem would be if there was no dining room slide? Now, I wonder which model does not have a dining room slide? And then if you have a front door and a back door? Will wonders and mysteries ever cease??

I flipped them one at a time to see what happened. DS turned on scare light on right side, step light and hitch light. ODS turned the driver side scare light or docking light

Like most things Montana, the only real way to know is try them and see. Assuming they are wired right, even if you are able to uncover the meaning, can prove to be problematic.

The 2950, 2955, 2980, and 3000 model Montana's (there may be more?) have their dining room slide on the street side. So DS = Dining Slide doesn't work for them for sure.

Street and curb side would be better references IMO. But then the members from Australia would complain. Maybe Left/Right would be a better compromise?

Never even though about dinning side/slide. It's a mini craft table now anyway. I'm glad I wasn't the only one coming up with my own definition. For now on, mine are Door Side and Opposite Door Side.
