Sleep Number Install

We are preparing to order a radius King to replace current poor Queen mattress on our 2008 3400RL. I've read the old posts so here's what I think I understand about the project:
1) I need to replace 1/2" thick queen sized plywood base with larger plywood - probably 70 X 78" & maybe 3/4 thick. Radius bottom corners enough to clear sink cabinets when slide is in.
2) Mount air pump under the new base at the bed head end. Secure pump with Velcro or other suitable strap. Notch new wood mattress base to allow running air hoses up & connect to head of Sleep Number Mattress. Question - Will the mattress head fit snug against wall with hoses connected?
3)Cut a hole in the side of the bed base that allows running an electrical cord from pump to existing bedroom 110V outlet. (Understand I may want to install wiring/junction box/outlet to bed base later knowing it has to accommodate slide going out)
Anything I left out or complexities I'm not anticipating? Thanks!

Yes, hoses are attached to the air chamber on the front, bottom. They go through a slit in the mattress cover and attach to the air chamber. We have a few feet of hose against the wall and mattress. If you leave extra hose be sure not to crimp the hose.

We went the other way, king to queen and simply cut the existing ply to fit the queen. I see no need to use 3/4 unless you prefer. I personally wouldn't want the additional weight.

You'll probably find that the mattress snugs up to the cabinet. Just cut your platform the same length as what you currently have and you should be fine.

Looks like you have it covered! Good luck.

We brought power from the basement to the front compartment, up through the hole that the hydraulic hoses go through and then under the bed area to the head if the bed. We routed and secured the pliable wire such that it would not get caught when running the slide in and out. Has worked for 7 years and two rigs.

Yes, the mattress will fit snug to the wall with the hoses that go through two holes drilled through the plywood support.

The main reason we've not put a SN in was trying to figure out how to run power without having an extension cord to plug & unplug. We've had a SN in our sticks & bricks for six years and really love it, and it looks like I won't have an excuse anymore! Thanks Michael & Kat!

If you run your settings fairly high, don't forget to deflate when traveling at higher altitudes to prevent a 'blowout'. Road service won't cover that!!

After re-reading my post, I think it is important to emphasize the pliable wire I am talking about. I used 14/2 SOO cord. Very flexible.

And, Tom is absolutely right about altitude...don't want to admit why I know...

I had experience with forgetting to let the pressure out. We went up to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, its 8300 ft and that night the mattress was as hard as a rock, close to 100lbs. No damage just let it out to 35lbs. Just recently six years later my side the Mattress developed a leak. They charged me half price for the replacement.
