New Member but W/O a Montana

Hello everyone,
My name is Jim (JimB42). Many of you have followed the same story with only slightly different details; backpacking then truck/tent camping followed by a tear drop trailer (took that little baby up the Dempster Highway through the Canadian Northwest Territories to Inuvik and the Beaufort Sea). For the last 4 years (and 30,000 miles) we have had a Lance 2285 Travel Trailer which we are taking back to Alaska and Canada one more time. This will be about a two month trip but when we get back I am seriously interested in trading up to a Montana. Currently interested in the 305RL or the 3160 but leaning toward the 305. Will have to sell my truck as well as the trailer but who wants to "sign off" with any money left anyhow. Thank you for allowing me to join your forum, I will attempt to give back as much as I take away.

glad you are here.
I have 305rl for 2 years now. I tow it with f350 gas 6.2. It pulls it very good. That is the one of the reasons I got the 305rl because it's light enough to tow with a gas truck.

Welcome from Central Oregon. We have a similar floor in our present 5th/W. It's a really good floor plan. I think you will enjoy either trailer. We had a HC back in 2012. It was a great trailer. Its only down fall was it only had one AC and it needed two. I really don't think you would be disappointed with either one.

Welcome to the Forum! This is probably the best place in the world to find out more about your choice/s after your return trip from Alaska. Ask away and you will get the best and most honest answer from the experts- actual owners of Montanas.

JimB42...congrats on your "moving on up" plans. Both your choices are good ones. A benefit to you that the 305RL High Country has over the 3160RL is the GVWR rating. You won't need to go thru the extreme hassle with DMV qualifying for a non-commercial class A driver's license as opposed to the 3160 which exceeds the 15K threshold, for which California state vehicle code law mandates you must have the non-commercial class A license to legally pull that rig while driving. Now if you're already so licensed, you can disregard my comments after the congrats.

Thanks all, I've already learned a lot just looking around. And thanks Richard, I had no idea I might need a commercial license. I'm really leaning toward the 305RL at this point anyway but another factor to take into consideration.

We joined this forum a year before we purchased our first Montana. We learned a lot about Montana's from those who already owned one. The good the bad and the ugly. This is our second Montana.

Welcome and I will echo the sentiments on the support provided here! After joining several months ago and gaining valuable information from the MOC, we made our purchase. We went through the same dilemma between the 305 and 3160RL. The main deciding factor for us was we wanted to be able to sit across from the TV vs having to turn our heads/body to watch the TV if it were mounted on the back wall 90 degrees from the prime viewing seats. Either way, I am sure you will be thrilled with a Montana!

Welcome, I'm a "newbie" myself, chuckled to myself when I read your thread title - it's exactly what I did! Back in 2000 I got a 25' "fiver" when my son was young - fav-o-rite campground Boone, NC KOA. It was a LOT of fun.

We eventually sold the rig and trailer when my son went to university.

When we recently decided to buy some land up north (eventually build), I heard about a used 2008 Montana (bumper pull), came to this forum and has it ever been a Godsend ! I started reading through some threads, eventually asked a few questions, and decided to buy the Montana (glad I did, it's beautiful)!

You're right what a resource these fine folks on this forum are!!
